What did you take from this week's Gospel reading (John 21:1-19)?
John 21:1-19 was the Gospel reading in Catholic Churches (and other Churches using the common lectionary) this weekend. For some reason (perhaps the great homily that followed) this reading REALLY spoke to me. I am curious what other people took from it. Here is a link to the reading - http://usccb.org/bible/readings/041413.cfm
What I got from it was that I haven't had a good salmon steak in a LONG time.
ElleBee, this is a great question. I had three roles to play with this reading. First reading it, then a sermon on it and then a bible study on it. In studying and preparing it seemed near tedious. On reading it, it seemed long. But then I began to share all the symbolism and the intricacies of the close relationship bond these guys had. And then the camaraderie and kindness of making and sharing a meal. And then the gentle patience of a great teacher. And in 20 to the end a strong message to mind your own danged business.
And then a review of the author who must have been "the one Jesus loved" and the humility and love Gospel.
Well in the Bible study my folks got all involved, we got all personal with the disciples and how cool it must of been sitting around a campfire chowing down with one of the greatest teachers that ever lived and all this after resurrection. What a blast, what a mind blower how fun is that!!?
Well what can I say, we start off trudging sometimes and end up with a fantastic mountain top experience with our friends.
Oh and they left out the great olive oil, bread, fresh fish with fresh olive oil on a beach at sunrise. Served by a living God whoa.
