How do people go for years not knowing their destiny?
How does it happen, why?
I have no idea of my destiny in this life. What's so strange about that?
Nothing. You have any Faith in God, our the Holy Roman Catholic Bible? I do hope you find out what you need in this life to cause fulfillment Peace, and
Destiny- The hidden power believed to control what will happen in the future; fate.
There is no such thing. Our future is based on the actions of our past and present. We make our future. It is not set in stone. It is not already there when we are born. It is what we make of life, and until we develop the ability to look at every single move we make and know all possible reactions, we can not know what the future holds.
Every thing happens at what my Teacher calls 'God's Hour.' I did not know till I was nearly 30, and then my re-awakening happened by reading a book. Knowing what I know now, I feel that even this is an act of Grace.
An awareness of Destiny is generally a conscious thing. We are perhaps all vaguely aware on an unconscious level. Still, each Soul wants a different experience and as such destiny, in the sense of what we are meant to do, may be covered up. Prayer and meditation expedites this process.
There is another kind of destiny called Fate or Prarabda Karma. Here we are experiencing the results past and present of our causes and effects. Before we can become conscious and move on, they have to be burnt out. Again, this requires Grace from God or the presence of a Spiritual Master, a God-realised Soul.
I figured you meant knowing life's purpose. They are all related. Some people find it even without conscious awareness, as they came specifically to fulfill that cause. Still, no matter how we look at it, it's mostly, not totally, all Cause and Effect, Action and Reactions in the end. It is a process of growth or experiences that all Souls must travel on their way back to the Godhead. Some are further along the way.
I am thinking that a person may get "stuck" and before you know it time passes by. For example they may have no choice but stay in the same job year after year because it's steady income to pay the mortgage and all other living expenses, so they can't just jump the ship and move on without another opportunity that is the same or better.
In this economy there is so much more competition for open positions and unless a person a) has the right connections and plenty of them, and b) highly specialized skills that are in demand, doors do not open. Also they may be so overwhelmed with the job they do have because their employer laid off coworkers and now they have to do the work of 3 people and get so stressed out they don't have time to reflect on or "find" their destiny. Without winning the lottery they have to keep trudging in the same job to pay the mortgage. Wow, this really sounds depressing doesn't it?
Destiny is a tricky thing because of interpretation. So many people see it in so many different ways, some by textbook definition, some by a religious reasoning, and some by their own reasoning. You can never truly "Know" your destiny because it changes not only with your own choices, but often with the choices of others. Best you turn destiny into a goal, instead of thinking time will make it happen. Time usually doesn't like giving us what we want, so we have to try and get it ourselves.
TNT: Right track. Self effort is necessary. God's Grace is indispensable.
