Why are there so many different English translations of the Bible?
Because there are so many people that want to play the translation game and interpret it according to the story they wish to tell. Also, because there are such abysmal education sytems throughout the world, it has to be made easier for people to comprehend.
Have the different versions contributed toward the assimilation of nations and cultures?
There are so many different translations of the bible because some people translated the bible to suit their specific purposes. The KJV for instance was ordered written in a n effort to keep people subjugated under the rule of the king
Because the different religions feel the need to make the Bible say what they want it to say to fit them
