Is martial law imminent for America?

Do you believe that martial law will be declared over America resulting in the suspension of the consitution that would lock Obama as dictator for life with no more elections.

I live on the outside looking in. They are taking what is left of your freedom. Your construction seems to be ignored. When will the drones turn inward.

I do not believe that it was officially declared but was that not what happened after the bombing at the Boston Marathon?  I stated in a Hub I wrote entitled "Freedom is a Constant fight Easily lost in Acquiescence," essentially just that.

This creation of "terrorism" in politics has given the government license to curtail many of our freedoms.  All in the name of "security."  I believe many of our Countries forefathers would agree that such a cry by government for security at the cost of freedom is a pretense for more government power and control.

Freedom always carries with it risk.  We have to be willing to accept the risk.  Freedom does not come "free."  We must fight for our freedoms and not give them up so easily.  The Boston Marathon bombing incident as an example.  The Bostonians cheered the military as they threw citizens out of their houses.  As tanks rolled up and down suburban streets.  As the military searched their homes and properties with no warrants.  And in the end, it was private citizens who brought about the capture of the perpetrators.

I do not believe our country is at the stage you suggest.  That martial law will be declared nationwide.  That the Constitution will be suspended.  That Obama will declare himself a dictator for life.  But I do believe we will and we are losing more of our long fought for freedoms and personal rights.  I do believe the government will continue to use "terrorism" as a guise and tool to take away more of our rights and strengthen and solidify its control over us.  I do believe that if the people of this Country continue to depend on government.  If the people of this Country continue to allow government to subjugate them to thunderous applause.  That this Country will be a far cry from the dream of our forefathers.

Terrorism has been used for this purpose since 9/11. Fear can get people to do and believe some pretty nonsensical things unfortunately and both parties play the terrorism card for their own agenda. I don't believe martial law is coming though.

Planks and Nails, people have been expressing the same concern you are expressing now every decade since the 1930s. And it hasn't happened yet. And it hasn't become more likely to happen. I suggest that you study American history more closely.

Yes, there are erosions to our freedoms. No, there is nothing like martial law in the wind, nor is there anything like the level of violence and conflict that would call for martial law.

But in my view, even the erosions to our freedoms are much less than others seem to think. Like RealityTalk, I also wrote a hub about the Boston Marathon bombings and their aftermath. Mine is called: Terrorist Attacks: The Cost of Living in a Free Society. There was no martial law in Boston. The police requested that people stayed inside. People agreed to do so. No curfew was put in place, and no one was arrested for violating a curfew. Our freedoms were not limited at all. And I'm glad the suspect was apprehended so quickly.

The people obeyed the 'request'....possibly due to the show of force that was present? - I wonder what would have happened to anyone who did not obey?

I agree completely with this. I think people are letting fear of the bogeyman take over and certain political affiliations are feeding that fear to get people to work against their own best interests however.

      Sid,
I believe since 9/11 that an agenda of propogana has been used on the American citizens into believing in the bogeyman and skapegoats as a way to erode their freedoms.

Planks and nails, that bogeyman has been used by the US government since 1798, with the Alien and Sedition Acts. It is no sign of a coup or martial law. It is business as usual for the good old US of A.

Another outsider looking inward, but then it's often said that the onlooker sees more of the 'game', and that sometimes you cannot see the wood for the trees.... I think America is being prepared for a coup, and that each notch turned on the ratchet of suppression in the name of 'security' is part of that preparation.

America has a division forming, those who support the 'old ways' that they see made the USA 'great' - and those who seek to change society to a new way, one which is socialist in nature and therefore an abhorrence to the established order.

So yes I do see that America may have not just Marshal Law, but a new Civil War, one not fought on battlefield, but in guerilla style.

Vietnam hopefully taught America that even superior fire-power and might cannot defeat a people who will fight against it with a will to gain freedom from the oppressor.

IN summation, the 'power elite' are facing a showdown with the dispossessed, and to try and stop that they are conducting a campaign to weaken and restrict the 'American Spirit'.

I agree with you, I would hope that more and more Obamatons would wake up and realise the state their nation is in and what it is becoming.

Only in the wet dreams of right-wing nut jobs. There is no evidence to suggest that President Obama intends to stay in office a day longer than his elected term. After all the crap he's had to deal with - from actual problems to manufactured scandals to idiotic conspiracy theories, I believe he will gladly turn over the White House keys to whoever succeeds him in January 2017, and get as far from DC as he can.

The attempt to paint President Obama as a power-mad dictator is just a marketing ploy by the Right Wing industry to sell guns and Bibles and gold. It is not based in reality.
