Is the woman described in Revelation Ch 12 the church?
I don't believe this doctrine has been well thought out amoung many chirstians who claim the woman in Rev. 12 is the church. If so, allow me to ask this question. As describede in Rev 12 the woman (Church) bore a male child to rule all nations. So how is it the woman who is the church bore a child (Christ) and then the church becomes the BRIDE of Christ? Tell me how that is suppose to work?
revelation states that the woman symbolizes the church. the church means that within that church are the doctrines of Christ and our heavenly father. the church bore a child because our heavenly father wants us to be saves from all our sins thus sacrificing our Christ for dying in the cross. the church becomes the bride because when Jesus Christ comes back, the church, its doctrines and believers will be saved and will go to heaven.
I have put much thought into Revelation and the metaphors therein and have read many convincing arguments and evidences concerning the woman and the man-child. I will say that the things concerning the book of Revelation for me is a work in progress, but ultimately the work to finding the infallible understanding is only via the Holy Spirit. With that said, I will reference Scripture in an attempt to affirm your question.
I believe Scripture interprets Scripture; therefore, we do not need to borrow from any other source, only the Word of God.
Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child. - Isaiah 66:7
Israel's coming hour of trial will be during the Great Tribulation through travailing and pain. Before that great event, Jesus Christ, the man-child, is born. Micah confirms this,
Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. - Micah 5:3
The travail of the woman is around two thousand years before the birth of Jesus Christ and the sorrow in the coming Tribulation to come. It states that before Israel travailed and her pain came, she brought forth Jesus Christ.
Through history of Israel, the dragon is against God's people and they travail as a result.
Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself. - Ezekiel 29:3
Notice the great dragon spoken of in this verse. Again, solid evidence of the dragon travailing against Israel.
Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out. - Jeremiah 51:34
Satan who is the dragon throughout history sole purpose was to destroy the seed of the woman as prophesied.
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. - Genesis 3:15
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. - Revelation 12:4
I have run out of words to write as there is so much more to add. God Bless.
PandN- Thanks. From the beginning of children Israel they were a Kingdom as states in Exodus 19:6. Israel was never a church. And we must not forget the dragon too is a kingdom. Note Rev.13:3 dragon gave his throne to the beast. (Have more to write)
I concur, the Beast could be said is an earthly embodiment, or incarnation of the Dragon.
If one understands the woman in Rev ch 12 to be the Kingdom of God then one would understand Rev 12:10 and why the dragon trys to to devvour her child right after it was born. Chirst would be a witness of the Kingdom of God which satan did not want..
Christ main purpose on earth was to spread the gospel of the Kingdom of God which He started. And it would continue to spread by those who are her offsprings or remnanrt of her seed as noted in Rev 12:17. Seed meaning Kingdom. Seed symbolizes Kingdom
