Can anyone tell me the exact verses which are known as the 'clobber verses'?
The 'clobber verses' are usually used in opposition to homosexuality or marriage equality. I know there are 6 but have trouble remembering them all. Anyone know the verses? Even if you just give the verse and chapter, not the actual 'written' piece.
I don't like them - but they are very necessary for a novel I'm writing.
Hi, Jacqui,
I have never heard of "clobber verses". I used 'google' search engine to
look up that phrase. There were many sites that referred to clobber verses.
Do you not have access to a search engine? If you do, just search the phrase and it gives, chapter and verse, and some give opinions, as well.
If I can be of further help to you, please let me know.
My best to you and give the wee one a hug from me.
DJ.
There are a lot more than six!
Leviticus 18:22: You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11: Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Romans 1:26-28: For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
Leviticus 20:13: If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
1 Timothy 1:10: The sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine...
1 Timothy 1:10-11: The sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
Jude 1:7: Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. (This verse refers to the time the 2 angels came to rescue Lot's family, and a mob gathered outside his door wanting to rape them.)
Romans 1:27: And the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Thanks SYTL - what translation is that one? (Homosexual as a word is very new in relation to the languages of the bible - it didn't exist as a word until the 20th Century), but thanks heaps for the info - helps greatly.
The website says ESV, which I take to mean English Standard Version. Judging by these verses, I think the Bible meant homosexuality as we know it.
Good luck on your novel!
Thanks! I realised after I posted the comment, the translation probably doesn't matter for the novel - it's just the beginning of one at the minute, I've got another sitting somewhere that I can't get into again to finish!
I have never heard of them in all my years. It sure doesnt sound very Christian tho so i probably ignored it if i heard it. Christianity is about love and forgiveness, not clobbering,
Must be saying from the apostate church system.
Thanks Celafoe for your answer. I think they are termed as such, possibly by secular people, because they are used to 'clobber' those who are homosexual, particularly while ignoring the verses around them at the same time.
We can add that Christianity is about Repentance also but that would be
Clobbering, as so many like the love feel good verses and like to ignore the ones around them like "repent", "go and sin no more" etc. It is a double edged sword for a reason.
