The term "Christian" is also used adjectively to describe anything associated with Christianity,or in a perverbial sense "all tht is noble, and good, and Christ-like, " as in the Christian thing to do. The word comes from Greek which being translated means "follower of Christ." It comes from meaning "the anointed one", with an adjectival ending borrowed from Latin to denote adhering to, or belonging to , as in slave ownership.
There are three findings of Christian in the Bible one being Acts 11 where Paul and Barnabas use it to call followers Christians in Antioch. Again in Acts 26 where a secular person known as King Agrippa asks Paul if the persuade him to be a Christian. Third is by Peter in 1 Peter 4 where he uses it to state if one suffers as a Christian...
If being a Christian is to be a follower than yes I am one and those who do the same are labeled as such as I. To be labeled is what man does, to have faith is what God asks for. No one can refute the faith of being a follower of Christ and being in Christ for Christ.
Thank you for your definition of the word, "Christian." It's worth repeating and food for meditation...

...Both a description of who I am and also of who I hope to be.
It is by the grace of God that I can confess without shame, guilt or fear that I am a Christian.
Yes, I am and proud of it. To all the non-Christians out there, what do you have to loose to become one, you have everything to loose if your not......why take that chance?
Our sanity, of course.
Sorry, but the myths and superstitions of bronze age shepherds aren't that interesting.
And besides, you are taking a great risk in believing the wrong myths, hence you might find yourself in another religions hell for not believing their religion. Why take that chance?
I hope your ready to hear the atheists.
They have been riled up all day about Christ.
And yes. I am a Christian.
And you haven't been on the march tanty? lol
Not that it matters. I think it is amusing the way you and all the atheists presume to know so much.
lolol I told you yesterday tanty. You remind me of my lil niece asking question and then getting frustrated when you find your wrong.
You all amuse me so much my gut is hurting like hell from the laughter.
And thank you for admiring my armor. It is nice and shiny though.
did you find my post offensive ? Or hilarious ?
That's the way you take your religion?
For what I said it was a praise:
Suits you as an armor.
Maybe being non educated, you didn't understand.
Did you read what I said?
I know what you meant. I told you also, I do not take offense to what you write. I do find it amusing, all your posts. You don't bother me tanty.
lol stop being so defensive.
TMMason thanks for the input along with showing you too stand sor your faith, and the headsup for those who claim atheisim or just plain stubborn in mind. You see I believe an atheist can be lead to understand that God does exist and cares more for people than people care for people, but the stubborn will not listen.
I had a friend tell me once that ignorance is not having been told of something, being stupid is having been told and yet still chose not to abide.
Then, as a theist, is it entirely impossible to convince you that Zeus, Thor, the FSM and a parade of gods purported to exist throughout the ages, don't exist?
As one with one God in my life it would be seeking falseness and a form of paganism to follow the gods of the Greek/Crete nations. Their view of gods as you listed are, and have been noted with a label as mythology. Have they been heard of and taught in schools in such context? yes. Have I heard of them? yes. Would I follow? no. Does this take me from being a Christian? no.
No, I'm not. I might have considered it at some point in the past but the bombastic condescending stuff coupled with the head-in-the-sand goody-goody stuff was the repellent that killed His word.
Yes, I wrote a hub about the treatment that I got and why I doubt some of the things they say is truth. Then I was called Satan and all kinds of names. They have this pattern they go though an put people through that don't do as they say and don't believe as they do. It's a pattern.......taught by.........oooos should I say it for fear I will be called more names..........yes I shall because that is what it is....brainwashed
David thanks for the input and affirmation of your faith. Through reading the Scripture on a daily basis will provide you the knowledge needed to be where God wants you to be not where the world wants you to be. Step in faith not in pride that is blind and leads us into stumbling paths.
Me too! That is by definition a believer that Christ is the son of God, and who did walk this earth a mere two thousand years ago. I don't believe that the Christian religion, is as it should be or practiced the way Christ intended it to be... In that it is hard to say what I am then.
From the definition posted here it is obvious that christianity is a false religion just as the many others around.
They idolise the man Jesus and supplant the Spirit Christ.
You see those who follow Jesus the man follow him unto His and their death.
But those who follow the Spirit Christ follow the spirit of life.
Those who follow the man focus a lot on what He has said, and look for a written code of conduct to follow.
This they have in a book of scriptures called the bible. Which they have successfully made his mouthpiece.
Not realising that it is nothing more than the covenant of death.
Those who follow the Spirit is then justified by the word of truth written upon their hearts.
This Truth is their guide and their life.
Another great book that no one seems to understand and no about is the Gnostic Gospels. Wonderful, wonderful collections regarding Christ, his message and beliefs.
Of course Christianity will never understand the things written. They were written by the spiritual for the spiritual.
They think they have all truth because the have the bible, but the scriptures on it's pages are written to the primarily the carnal believer, who have turned from or have not yet understood the faith.
The antichrist spirit has taken even those writings and injected serious lies, which forms the christian foundational doctrines.
The anti-Christ??? Why does everything concerning the 'good of Christianity' eventually gets blamed on the anti-Christ??? Anyone?
How about Christ injected love and compassion in the foundational doctrines. Lets do credit him with something.
Too often we want to know what the rules are so that we can know how far we can push the limit. If this is the reason for learning his word; then our heart is not where it ought to be. They want to know how bad we can be and still get away with it??;
Those that live in the spirit of his word, will find themselves living under or below the limits of the law without even thinking about it.
or something like that.

Atheists often ask for proof of Jesus being the son of God. If Jesus came to earth and everyone realized He is the son of God, would you still reject Him as your saviour?

I have noticed that many atheists and anti-Christians (as can be seen from the most active forums on Hubpages), have a huge distaste for Christianity primarily because of the contradiction between there being a loving God and an eternal hell-fire for those who do not do what he wants. From my study...

How can atheists improve their image? For whatever reason, the mainstream theists in the U.S. have trouble separating average atheists from the extremists in the news. Not all atheists want to watch Christianity crumble or start their own dictatorship. But how can we spread the image of a more...

.......in terms of behaviours and activities?I've just read a hub by someone talking about the old Chestnut that not all who call themselves Christian are going to heaven citing Jesus "Not all who cry Lord will enter the Kingdom......." I suppose this is connected to Emile's OP asking why...

As a Christian, do you think of atheists and agnostics as lesser people ? Please care to elaborate.

Although some might counter that Hitler's admission to Christianity, by itself, does not make one a Christian, how else can an individual convey to another his religion except from their own confession? One of the tenants of Christian belief, indeed the definition of a Christian, comes from the...
