Do you think that metathesiophobia(fear of change)is the reason people don't make effort to improve?

I think lack of confidence and fear of failure contribute more to people's reluctance to make a effort to improve themselves. Too many experiences with results not being worth the expended effort can make people decide it's not worth the effort for the results they assume they'll get. Also, if they see too many examples of people around them expending a great deal of effort, only to be worse off than when they started, like people who go to college only to end up deep in debt and unlikely to get a better paying job, they may be more cautious about taking risks.

Absolutely right. Fear of failure acts as one of the biggest detrimental forces in this case. But how do you think one can overcome that?
