Do you believe in evolution?
Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth. I have read over 100 times that it is a controversial topic, but I havent understood why it is. If you are a religious person please explain why evolution isn't real.
It baffles me as well.
For whatever reason the religious people who outright deny evolution are under the random impression that if evolution is true that it somehow takes God completely out the picture. Otherwise, there's no reason to deny evolution. There are religious people who accept it on the grounds that God still created everything, including the components requires for evolution to take place.
Yes, I do.
I think what is often the problem is that people misunderstand what evolution is about. It's not the replacing of one type of a species with another similar one with some good changes. It's the gradual change over time of species into better suited to situation/time/area/food source/survival versions.
I often see the 'but if we evolved from apes, why are there still apes' - errrr, cause that's not how it works. We share a huge amount of DNA, but we have evolved further, and in different ways based on what we (as a species) face etc.
You can see evidence of evolution all over the place, but for some faiths they are discouraged from acknowledging.
A friend of mine is a LDS, and a nurse, and doesn't believe in evolution - which confuses me but she's a wonderful nurse, so...meh.
You make a misconception wich is normal. You make the assumption that all religionists do not hanker to some sort of theory of evolution. Some religious people follow Shinto teachings, others follow Native American teachings and some follow Hindu. I know a paganist and a witch. Some religious person can tell you just about any complete theory of evolution. Many Christians follow evolution and fit it into Genesis. Many of us believe that man evolves into something during his lifetime and many more believe man has evolved over the last two millennium.
Evolution does not exist in some scientific vacuum.
Evolution describes a world that continues to grow and change. God knows man has changed in 5,000 years that is why His son was sent when He was. Man evolved and at least some could handle the New.
If you have not evolved from your ancestors 5,000 years ago I have pity on you. I have.
You may have read that it is controversial. That is from people who want to make a big deal out of differences and not mutual understanding. Life is not black and white. Life is full of grey.
I am Christian and I state unequivocally that man has evolved. And dogs have evolved and many other species. It is only a fight among the details which no one comprehends completely.
The major problem with religion is that it stops seeking the truth. God forbid - LOL - seeking the truth reveals that there is no God.
Really? I stopped seeking truth because I have some religion. Interesting that you know my mind better than I do. When there is absolute proof that there is no God - sign me up! Of course there never will be and that is a truth worth seeking.

Is it possible to truly be religious as well as believe in the evidence of science with theories such as evolution, the Big Bang and dinosaurs existing prior to man not along side? (Please keep it clean and civil guys, thank you.)

Religious people often think the teaching of evolution should be banned, and vice-versa for non-religious people. What id your opinion? Should evolution, creationism, or neither be taught? Why?

Do you believe non-religious people, who lead a good life, are still going to hell? One of my biggest frustrations with religion is the idea that, how you live your life is of no consequence if you do not accept god. For example, John Smith is a good christian man who helps people, obeys the law and...

Or do they find it too much of a threat to their beliefs?
