The bible is a collection of books and writings that were made over a span of many years. It is accepted by many as the word of God, written down by those who were given the knowledge from himself.
What is known as the Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures deals with how the Earth was created and populated. It tells the story of the people who were to become the Jewish nations.
The New Testament or Christian writings are based around the life of Jesus. This person is accepted by many as the son of God. Many of these books and letters were written by Jesus's desciples
Thanks a lot for your answer. It is a very detailed answer.
I like you, George. Oztinato was being 'sweetly' funny, and you dealt with it well. I also like Carolyn's answer. She is wise and careful. Much Love.
YOU ARE IGNORANT TO WORD!
The Old Testament is JESUS "concealed" (Is 9:6) as the New Testament is JESUS "revealed!"
EVERYTHING in OT leans toward the "Manifestation of GOD in the flesh" (ITim3:16) for our "reconciliation" to HIM through GRACE!
To religionists, the Bible is considered to be the actual word of God. They maintain that the Bible is God's mandate as to how people should live. However to other people, the Bible is a book of history & metaphors. There are those who strongly contend that the Bible is a book written by humans which was revised, changed, & even expunged over time according to the dictates of the religious authorities at the time.
The Bible IS the Word of God. It is infallible and inerrant. It was written over a period of 1600 years. It consists of 66 books written by 40 different authors. It is a book of prophecies many which have been fulfilled and many that are yet to come. There are prophecies that are being fulfilled as we speak. Heed the Word of God while there is still time. Acknowledge your sin before God and ask for His forgiveness. Jesus, Son of God, God in the flesh who was without sin, laid down His life on the cross as payment for YOUR sin. BELIEVE in Him and you shall be saved!
The Bible is the "inspired WORD of GOD" (II Timothy 3:16)! Even with additions and/or deletions, IF we have done as "commanded," HE gives us the "Spirit of discernment" (Hebrews 5:14) to detect all changes!
Remember how the disciples asked JESUS "Why do you speak in parables?" JESUS replied "...Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven (Holy Spirit; aka JESUS, who was with them), but to them it is not given" (Matthew 13:11)! It's the Holy Spirit's job to "lead and guide us into ALL truth" (John 14:26) which includes (but not limited to) discernment of additions and deletions in HIS WORD!
Consequently, if we would do as "commanded," which is "WAIT" (Acts 1:4) for the HELP of the "PROMISE" (John 14:26; 16:13) we would be able to "discern" additions and deletions in HIS WORD!
Consider it a test!
If you didn't do as "commanded," you will "lean to your OWN understanding" (Proverbs 3:5) and continue to interpret Scripture according to YOUR knowledge; creating over 33,000 denominations in the US alone which defies the "ONE MIND" of CHRIST (Philippians 1:27)!
