I stumbled upon a tread on Facebook where the poster was extolling the virtues of vow making - how effective it can be and urging people to make one.
Lots of people jumped in and the thread climbed to over a hundred responses in under 30 minutes.
Now, while I have made vows and know how effective they can be, I believe the should be a personal thing between you and God. I mean, I cringed when reading some of the really person vows on that thread.
Have you made a vow before? How has it worked for you?
I think it mostly depends on the person making the vow rather than the vow itself. I never made any vows to god personally, but I have met others that have. Some meant it and kept their vows, while others not so much. Again it depends on the person making the vow. If the person has a history of being a liar, and constantly thinking about themselves all the time, then no. I won't believe them. But if the person has a history of always keeping their word, then I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I can't keep my promises and vows to myself. How people keep their Religious vows and laws in check, is impossible from experiences.
