Why does God want us to pray? I believe because He wants a relationship with us. He already knows what we need before we ask, but it's more as an act of obedience and respect.
Does he know children who starve to death each day need food? As an act of respect and not of obedience, of course.
No apparently he decides where you are born and if you get food, or just get blown to pieces by another zealot!
Why do God want us to pray? To see if you'll obey. Why else?
However, if you do pray to God, then you've obviously got problems. Some for which I cannot help you with, but you must get over on your own, because only you can find the truth if you actually want it.
Have a great day with your belief in an non-existent entity. I hope you get well soon.
You are asking for a rational explanation for an irrational non operative process aimed at nothing?
The most rational explanation I can give is this: Prayers/meditations are used as a way to focus your own mind on your own problems, dreams, and goals. They are not a way to magickally get what you want. Instead, they are a tool you use to help focus your energy in a more positive and constructive way.
I don't call that prayer, I call it contemplation, no invisible entities needed.
Maybe not needed, but can sometimes be helpful to think that, somewhere out there, someone hears your prayers. People find hope and faith in their own way. Your way probably won't work for about 50% of the world's population. Everyone is different. It's not hurting you if someone else prays so just let it be.
Who says it isn't hurting anyone? Giving false hope to those who need medical attention leaps to mind!
Not everyone is an extremist when it comes to religion. I meditate daily, but I know when it is time to seek professional medical help. Perhaps you should stop thinking so negatively and do some research on the POSITIVE side of organized religion.
Oh, but it is hurting, a lot.
It hurts the people who clearly live a life of misery and suffering and usually die of starvation and disease simply because there is no one to hear their prayers for a little food and medicine. Prayer in this regard isn't helpful in the least and serves more as an insult to the dying and the dead.
It also hurts those who must endure believers who pray to their gods and thank them for their good fortune and food on their tables.
Yes, it does hurt, a great deal. Perhaps, you should reflect on that next time you want to pray to your gods.
prayers remind that there is hope.
Still what Earnest said is very valid:

Thank you HubChief. I had a friend once who's family would not let him have medical attention, all he needed was prayer. He died at 12 from acute appendicitis which poisoned him. I know another older man who refused cancer surgery because his family was gonna cure it with prayer. He died within 6 weeks. His prognosis when discovered was for a full recovery. Some of these people are dangerously mad!
Yes, his answer does have a valid point to it. However, there are also valid points as to why prayers can be a positive thing. Prayer can help people feel as if they belong, can help people find strength in themselves to keep going, and give people needed peace of mind.
c God had made humans that they will worship him he also made many angels but he need humans cuz humans r full of emotions but angels r empty frm this so for that God want us to pray n he wants to know that hoe much v love him..
Look errum... Love comes naturally... u just cant love anybody or anything by forcing yourself...It is very natural that I with many of my fellow hubbers here may not feel any LOVE for your Almighty God..but that doesnt necessarily conclude that we are committing sins (since we dont possess full control of our emotions) ...But the most funny part of religions is that we have to burn in hell for eternity for not loving him (God)! ...which basically means its a conditional love! ...
And in this Conditional Love u get:
Love him= heaven full of pleasures for eternity
Dont Love Him = Burn in Hell for eternity
Which is quite absurd !!! Bcoz A true love should be unconditional. The nature of love for God is conditional and sounds very selfish. In fact I hardly met a person who really loves God. People pretend to love God usually bcoz of 2 reasons:
1. Their greed for the heavenly pleasure in afterlife (usually they are losers in this life, knw they cant achieve these pleasures by themselves and looks for Gods aid in afterlife)
2. Their fear of punishment in hell.
If this 'Conditional love' theory doesn't sound rational to you then let me give u a practical scenario:
Suppose God tells us, "No matter how much you pray and no matter how much you love me, I am going to punish all of you for eternity...where I will make Shish Kebab with your arse hoole again and again."
Now tell me, will there be a single person who would love God or pray to God after hearing this?? NO! bcoz nobody loves god..love should be unconditional..love is never based on conditions...
I see through this "You can be loved if" belief system for the same reason. Love is not conditional. I tell my kids I disagree with their decisions sometimes but my love is never negotiated.
anyone notice most of the answers here are pulled right out of people's asses?
the only way we can tell him our problems and him listening to us
Your right He wants a relationship with us! You can't force a person to love you, it has to come from your heart:) There is much faith built in prayer, even in confessing our faults to Him. It takes steps of faith, to build any relationship!
personally if i were god and who says i'm not, i wouldn't want people praying to me all the time. like santa claus for instance. rudolph's nose has been blinking for how long? you think he's tired of it yet? that's why i built him a remote he could turn the lil blinker on and off with.
You are not god! I have one of those remotes! A cheap electrical store item!I also have trouble with the whole Rudolph story!
You remind me of the locals here who had holy oil coming out of the wall in their house!
A scientist took 20 minutes to find it was cooking oil poured into the plaster.
Seriously....
mine has cheap imported fairy dust in it so it's much superior to your electrical remote.
OK, so I don't have the fairy dust! I reckon I know a post I can get some from!
yeah but you didn't think of the whole remote control for rudolph's nose thing so...
but my magic staff is nicer than yours. i have pictures.
I cant bet, I haven't got any pictures. Anyway your just jealous cos MY GOD IS LOUDER THAN YOURS!!!!!!!!!!!

eg the the people that didn't get healed when you prayed for them? Not enough faith? Hidden sin? God doesn't care? Answered prayers are really just luck anyway?

If god is all-knowing, why do you pray?according to religious people, their god knows all, what they think, what they are going to do etc. so why do people pray to it if it already knows what they are thinking?

Believers believe that God knows everything. Then why many believers pray to God loudly, shouting and many times on microphone?
