Proof that Reality is an Illusion. What say you?
The case against reality by University California Irvine (UCI) (July 22, 2019)
In his new book, UCI vision scientist Donald Hoffman says evolution has trained humans to construct reality, rather than to see the world as it truly is.

“Perception is not objective reality. Case in point: The above image is stationary and flat…just try telling your brain that. In his new book, The Case Against Reality, UCI cognitive scientist Donald Hoffman applies this concept to the whole of human consciousness – how we see, think, feel and interact with the world around us. And he thinks we’ve been looking at it all wrong.
“I’m interested in understanding human conscious experiences and their relationship to the activity of our bodies and brains as we interact within our environment – and that includes the technical challenge of building computer models that mimic it, which is why I’m working on creating a model that explains consciousness,” he says.

“As a scientist, I propose a theory and then try to prove the theory wrong, to test its validity,” he says. “Because there is no mathematical theory explaining the pattern of neural activity that creates consciousness, it may mean we are making a false assumption.” He argues instead that consciousness creates neural activity – that humans have evolved to see what’s needed for survival. Perceptions, he says, are a user interface, but not necessarily reality.”

Thoughts, criticisms, accolades, and/or commentary?
Completely disagree. Reality is real, not an illusion.
What is proven is that our perception of reality can be, and very often is, an illusion. Dig deep enough, and we can likely say that our perception is always an illusion.
But that does not mean that reality is an illusion as well.
Well, if you’d studied Quantum Physics like I have (a hobby/interest of mine) you’d know that ‘Reality is an Illusion’.
The famous ‘Double Slit Experiment’ (explained below) is an eye-opener to how ‘reality is an illusion’; not to mention the famous Schrödinger's cat – and it’s these strange aspects of reality that makes ‘quantum computers’ a reality:

A good read on the subject is “Other Worlds, Space, Superspace and the Quantum Universe” by Paul Davies. Related to this – On 4th October 2022 - Physicists Proved the Universe Isn’t Real: https://youtu.be/YSAhtl7BVtE
That we don't know what reality is, or that we don't understand how things work, does not change reality.
Perhaps we are using a different definition of reality. What is, is (reality), whether particle or wave, observed or unobserved, whether alive or dead - what we think it should be is irrelevant and imagination only.
(I am familiar with both the friendly cat and the double slit experiment, from quite a few years ago.)
Yes, I agree with you (wilderness). Reality can't be an illusion at all. But, Reality can be perceived to be "Subjective". Proper research and verification of facts can lead to the Truth, that is Reality.
According to George Orwell's novel "1984", the reality is that it gets rewritten 100 or more times. It gets continuously rewritten numerous times until the original has been forgotten and people believe the newer version is the real picture.
Reality is that which always IS.
Cannot be destroyed.
Is always around us
And is always animating the animatable.
Even rocks are evidence of an underlying reality ...
Because some force is creating and holding rock atoms together.
Is that invisible underlying force is causing illusion? That might be the question.
Maybe we do not perceive that force and cannot see atoms and energy with our eyes, but everything that exists in the world is proof of the underlying reality of the cosmic force/source of everything that exists.
Our eyes, ears and other senses perceive the best they can based on their limitations. Of course evolution has a lot to do with how we perceive. Mistakes, however, can be made because our physical senses are so easily fooled.
“'Because there is no mathematical theory explaining the pattern of neural activity that creates consciousness, it may mean we are making a false assumption.'” He (Donald Hoffman) argues instead that consciousness creates neural activity – that humans have evolved to see what’s needed for survival. Perceptions, he says, are a user interface, but not necessarily reality.” tsmog
I would agree.
In fact, artists and actors take total advantage of the human limitation in perceiving reality.
oh, and politicians ...
The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.

This is a question I have yet to see thoroughly answered, here. It is an open question to Atheist, Theist, Agnostic, Gnostic -even Scientist, Philosopher or Other. In your opinion, what constitutes or is [would be] defined as evidence, tangible proof of the existence of Creator [termed God]....
