Listen, we know that we argue, fight and disagree about God, about Jesus and about everything spiritual. We Christians don't agree on every point, and our opposers don't agree on every point either...we all have our pet understandings.

(Stay with me)....the fact of the matter is that each of us has a need or a hope for something that we cannot make happen by ourselves....sickness, a situation with our kids or other loved ones, you may need a job or are faced with some other seemingly insurmountable circumstance...whatever the case may be.

So, in this thread, whether you are a Christian or not, whether you believe there is a God or not, whether you believe in prayer or not, please post your need.

As an act of brotherly kindness, the Christians will pray, other folk will send good thoughts and still others will do what they do....

The one thing we all agree on is the power of simply loving others.

      need?

how about if God puts invisible force fields around innocent babies so this stuff doesn't happen?

Out of the darkness: Baby P's killers named at last

The three people responsible for the brutal death of Baby Peter can be identified for the first time after a court ruling banning their identification came to an end at midnight.

Tracey Connelly, 28, and her sadistic boyfriend Steven Barker, 33, were jailed for causing or allowing the death of 17-month-old Peter Connelly in his blood-spattered room in Haringey, North London.

He had suffered dozens of injuries after months of abuse at the time of his death, including a broken back and fractured ribs, and had been on Haringey’s child protection register, but professionals had failed to spot the danger despite 60 different visits.

The media have been prevented from naming the couple since last year, when they were convicted of causing or allowing the death of Peter. Both were subsequently tried in connection with the rape of a two-year old girl, although only Barker was convicted. Despite the ban on the mainstream press identifying them, their identities soon became known to users of internet sites not bound by the order or ignoring it.

The lifting of the ban on identification, a week after the second anniversary of the death of Peter, also means that Jason Owen, the third defendant, who was a lodger in the house, can be identified as the brother of Barker — he changed his name after Peter's death. Owen was also convicted over Peter’s death, but there was no ban on naming him.

The NSPCC has criticised the decision to make the couple’s identities public, asking whether it was in the interests of Peter’s siblings. “We have serious misgivings about this,” said Wes Cuell, director of services at the children’s charity. “There is clearly a difficult balance in legitimate public interest and prurience. The concern we have is what impact this [the naming] will have on the lives of children who have already been through the killing of a brother, and question in what way it is in their best interests.” The siblings had already suffered enough “and respecting their privacy gives them the best chance of recovery”, Mr Cuell said.

Barker had been investigated by police before for a violent assault. Connelly had nothing in her past that would hint at the horrors to come.

They were both from dysfunctional families and the coming together of the pair was, according to one senior police officer, “the perfect storm” that led to the death of Peter.

Connelly, who was unemployed, loved having in her view a handsome boyfriend and while she spent hours on the internet every day, looking at pornography and chatting to friends on networking sites, he tortured her son for his own amusement.

The Times has been told that having a steady boyfriend was everything to Connelly and the abuse of her child was “a price she was willing to pay”.

She was terrified that if she complained about the abuse he would leave her. On one social networking site she said: “My fella is nuts but being in love is great.”

In reality her boyfriend was a 15 stone sadist who not only enjoyed torturing animals but people as well.

The Barker brothers were both charged with assaulting their grandmother, Hilda Barker, 82, at her home in Whitstable, Kent, in 1995.

The pensioner told police that they locked her in a wardrobe to make her change her will in their favour but the case was dropped after she died from pneumonia.

Jacqueline Cole, 58, a neighbour of Mrs Barker, said: “She was black and blue. I heard they tried to scare her to death with Guy Fawkes masks.”

When he was not abusing the toddler, Barker, who had a pet snake, would use a large knife to skin live frogs and break their back legs to see if they could still jump.

Dead mice, chicks and dismembered rabbits were left lying around the house, along with his pornography.

A knife-obsessed sadist, he wore combat gear, collected Nazi military memorabilia including daggers decorated with swastikas and was always seen with his rottweiler.

He had been prosecuted by the RSPCA for torturing animals.

While Connelly gladly told her friends how much she loved Barker, she kept him a secret from social services as she was worried about losing her benefits.

When the 17-month-old child died he had suffered 50 injuries including eight fractured ribs, a broken back and had the tip of a finger missing.

Connelly is alleged to have attacked two of her other children, hitting one with a hairbrush and slapping the other around the face. The slap was seen by a school nurse who reported it to social services, leading to the child being put on the at-risk register.

As Peter grew too old for milk and baby food he was seen to scavenge broken biscuits from his siblings and was even seen eating dirt in the garden.

Connelly was said by some to be more attentive to her dogs.

That the injuries suffered by Peter were never spotted by officials was down to her knowledge of how to manipulate the system and those working within it.

She grew up the daughter of a woman with drink and drug problems while her father had been convicted of sexually assaulting a girl in the 1970s.

At 15 Connelly was given the choice of being placed in care or going to a special school. She chose the latter, obtaining several GCSEs.

When she left she found part-time work as a barmaid and a hairdresser but within a year, aged 16, was in a relationship with a much older man.

They married in 2003 but the marriage collapsed three years later after Peter’s birth when she had two affairs, the second with Barker.

During the two trials she wrote to Barker and made sure the jury saw her tears at key moments. Just before she was to be sentenced she sent a letter to the judge.

She dabbed at her eyes as a catalogue of apologies, regrets and self-recriminations were read aloud. She wrote: “Every day of my life is full of guilt and trying to come to terms with my failure as a mother. I punish myself on a daily basis and there is not a day that goes by where I don’t cry at some point.”

It was her first sign of remorse, hours before she was to be sentenced.

Other letters from jail since then are said to have bragged how she was planning holidays in Egypt, Greece and Italy once she was free, and said her life would be “one long party”.

She wanted to portray herself as someone who “fell in love with the wrong man”.

Paul Mendelle, QC, her defence counsel, claimed she was a “doting” parent who had been careless and lazy but never cruel or violent towards her son. “She accepts that she could and should have protected Peter better than she did. She accepts that she failed in her duty as a mother,” he said, adding that she had been unfairly vilified.

Police believe that Barker did not set out to target the Connelly family. The senior police officer said: “He subconsciously gravitated to the Connelly family and then took advantage of the situation he found himself in to abuse Peter.”

Barker tried to manipulate the court into believing that he was so simple he could not even read or write. But in reality he was a determined and calculating bully who recognised that the circumstances in which he found himself would allow him to satisfy his violent character.

Barker claims that when he was growing up he was the victim of abuse, a charge his alleged abuser denies. Whatever the case, he was sent to a school for children with special educational needs in Tottenham.

One teacher said that he was the brightest pupil in the class — enough to put paid to the lie that he was a simpleton.

His claims of not being able to read or write were also dispelled by police who saw text messages that he sent.

In prison, guards keep a careful eye on the former couple in case other inmates try to exact retribution.

Connelly has recently been moved from Holloway prison to Low Newton jail near Durham, where she is held on a small unit within the lifer unit but mixes with other inmates.

She has therapy sessions to help her to deal with any psychological problems, a specialised programme that is available to very few prisoners.

Barker is in the high-security Wakefield prison along with hundreds of other sex offenders.

Two years ago the brothers’ father, David Price, 63, changed his name from Barker to distance himself from his sons. He told The Sun: “What they did was awful. They deserve to be punished. I don’t care what happens to them.”

all this is happening in the world because God lets us choose what we want to do,
man putting chemicals in can food in water in the feed of animals, man has free will and he is destroying about ever thing,
we need to turn to God, if America would do that things would get better.
we would still have problems, but he will help in time of need.
I know because I lost a daughter when she was only 4 months old, and my Lord was there with me.

My sincere condolences on your loss. Losing a child is a difficult thing and I am truly glad your religious beliefs gave you comfort in your time of need.

However, not everyone needs or wants to turn to God.

My beliefs carried me through my profound loss and explain quite effectively, to me, why things are the way they in this crazy world of ours.

We all see the world in a different way and we all have things in our life that comfort us during the dark times. You have God, I have the Dharma, other people here have their own comforting belief systems.

We should embrace all compassionate philosophies and people equally. IMHO.

Yes.  I have loved ones who are lost and undone without God.
And although I know we cannot ourselves save their souls, we can petition God to intervene in their lives to draw them to Him.
I would welcome agreement in prayer for that.

      Brenda,

I stand in agreement for the perfect laborer to come across your loved ones paths. That they would speak with such intelligence and wisdom that your loved ones will not be able to resist the Word of truth. I agree that because you are saved, even your whole household shall be saved.

I further take authority over the works of the enemy in his attempt to keep them blinded from the glorious gospel which is able to save their souls. I speak life into their lives. In Jesus' Name, Amen

I need a new car. Could you pray that God sends me a new Subaru Forester (I will make do with a year old one as long as it has leather and satnav).

    Black Metallic paint please.

My diet is going great without divine intervention, my wife is very pretty, and I am feeling good, so I am good to go there without God doing nuffink. Although - while you are up there anyway - I would also like it if He would stop the incessant whining from his fan club.

Of course I can buy one. What use is that? I want the magic, god dunnit for me car. Like wot u didn't promise.

I know your type of prayer doesn't work and there are no promises. What I find funny is the idea that you praying for some one else will do anyone but you any good. LOL The other entertaining thing is you asking people who do not believe the stuff you do to join in your prayers and do not seem to grasp how insulting that is because it completely says you do not value, respect or accept their viewpoint. Not going to try and explain that to you as I am at the point of giving up trying to explain why your religion causes so many fights.

You do not seem to understand the benefits derived from prayer - or even why there are benefits and the fact that there are many, many different ways of achieving these benefits without becoming a righteous hypocrite - which actually defeats every thing you might gain.

You also seem to imagine that there is some imaginary super being listening - and some times he will grant an answer to these prayers and sometimes he will not - depending on whatever your version of The Nonsense tells you.

I can manifest anything I want, but I have learned that the costs are sometimes surprising and difficult to anticipate - and it is best to give serious consideration to actually asking directly for a need to be fulfilled and instead look inwards to determine what I might need to do/learn/unlearn/relearn to achieve what I consider to be my needs at that time as far as my personal development goes.

Once you understand that there is not an actual invisible super being called god, and how these manifestations actually come to pass - you will understand the whole thing much more clearly than you apparently do. The first thing you need to do is drop this rubbish attached to Christianity that some one else dunnit for you, because your version of god and jesus have absolutely nothing to do with spirituality. Nothing.

                  Good luck. wink

                    Mark my friend,

If you can buy a car, then you don't need prayer for a car....don't you get it??? I told them you [b] never listen to me[b]. sad

Maybe if I keep praying for you, you 'll come around.smile

                    Some things never change.

Why are those who claim to have no belief the ones who make the greatest effort to insult and wage rage? If those who have saved themselves from religion could manufacture some selfcontrol - I would be amazed.

      Brenda, my friend,

You got it, what the "opposition" doesn't realize is that each one who speaks mockery is being prayed for with even more diligence....I love it...those who don't want prayer consciously are geting it just because they responded to this post.....lol

The insults and mockery are empty and can do no harm. Nothing can deter the love of God.... wink, So, they can keep on bringing them. And, we can keep on praying big_smile

I wish a prayer forward for Mr. Jones of the wayward Dove Outreach Center...  May the hate that they incite in others fall on their own heads, and not on those of the good and decent Americans who know better...

For the future wars and global conflicts that this "church" and its leadership help spur on...may it be their sons and daughters that have to pay the price for the harm they are seeking to create....

May the "national burn a quran day" mantra espoused by these fools only cause the downfall of their own organization, in terms of credibility as well as actual ability to operate and give Mr. Jones a paycheck...

May he have to get a real job where he is held accountable for his actions, as opposed to his current position as rabble rouser...

All of these folks are going to pray for what I need, right? Okay. Pray that all of the religious zealots/fanatics/whatevers stop clogging up the forum and go to a site that's about religion. Pray that one enterprising young zealot starts up a HubReligion or ZealotPages site and they all migrate there.

There are always dreams, right? smile

A prayer that all the people who think prayer is not a waste of time will be enlightened and stop making nonsense claims.

And that they twist themselves in knots trying to decide if they want this prayer answered or not.

25,000 people are dying from hunger, poverty, famine in Africa everyday. Yet we are here praying to get a better paying job and a new Subaru Forester. Certainly reflects the pinnacle of human selfishness.

Prayers for world peace on the other hand have been unanswered for thousands of years. God certainly works in mysterious ways.
