This is serious question asked in ignorance of the subject and seeking a simple truthful answer.
It is not an invitation for all and sundry go off in every which dirction on a wild rant on the subject of Halloween
while researching for a Hub on the subject of Halloween I came across this statement:
"Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Halloween because they believe anything that originated from a pagan holiday should not be celebrated by true Christians."
My ignorant question is this; If the above statement is true do Jehovah Witnessses celebrate or even accept Easter and Christmas as Christian Holly days ?
Christmas no - Easter possibly but they don't give you any eggs!
"Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Halloween because they believe anything that originated from a pagan holiday should not be celebrated by true Christians."
I don't think Jesus or Moses established that principle. Did they?
I am not an expert on this subject, but I have heard from my teacher friends that they do not celebrate "anything." No birthdays, no Valentine's day, no 4th of July. I always hear these sad story's of little kids having to endure ridicule of a nature and brutality that only elementary school kids can devise (not to mention just feeling left out, always)... all so that those poor children can be spared the evil of a Disney themed Valentine's card or a little bag of treats at Halloween.
If the JWs don't celebrate "No birthdays", "no Valentine's day", "no 4th of July" and no Christma; that in this aspect they are right; Jesus never celebrated any of the above. Did he?
Now I know you're having a laugh....!
How was Jesus ever going to celebrate Christmas.... or
Easter for that matter ?
Now could you please shut up and let a real J W answer the question...?
It was a serious question, seriously asked and so far I'm still looking for an answer.
They sound a real barrel of laughs....!!!!
they don't celebrate holidays or birthdays and will even make sure children do not take part in any holiday activities at school. also many don't let their kids say the pledge of allegiance. I've had a few who could not sing happy birthday with the class.
Thanks to all who responded and helped me get the facts straight.
The main reason for asking was I wanted to respond to a comment on another Forum topic that was,in my opinion not only wrong but misleading as well, so I needed clarification before sticking my two cents worth in.
I suppose another question that springs to mind... Anyone know what they actually do for FUN ?
Meh. I look at it like this...more stuffs for me during trick or treat.
I looked them up.
My conclusion is that it is a waste of time to even think about them.
I have some J W work colleagues that I've had some lively discussions with.
They do not celebrate Christmas or personal birthdays because birthdays have negative connotations in the Bible. Like the first born children being massacred at Jesus' birth and John the baptist getting beheaded after he condemned Herod on his birthday etc. But they do celebrate wedding anniversaries.
Any religious or political festival, like 4th July for instance, is not celebrated. Religous festivals are seen as basically pagan and national holidays are shunned because they see themselves as members of the Kingdom of God.
The only festival they do acceptt is Easter, though they don't call it that. They see it as a memorial that Jesus established for himself. At their memorial communion is served, the only time it is, and only those who are among the 144,000 that will ascend into heaven are able to partake of communion.
Hope that helps.
It is also believed that these holidays are wordly and full of self-elevation. My neighbors are JW and we are christian. Neither of us celebrate these holidays, though many christians do. (we do celebrate birthdays in a toned-down manner.)
They don't celebrate Christmas, not sure about anything else. I once made the mistake of giving a Christmas card to a JW when I was at school, he just laughed at me!

Why do non-Christians celebrate Christmas?Christmas is a celebration of the birthday of Christ. Why do non-Christians celebrate Christmas? Is this the reason people say the US government was founded based on Christian principles?

Please don't tell me it is for the children's sake. Let me emphasize... Christians not others, but Christians.

Why are so many people critical of how others celebrate Christmas?Christmas is what you make it and you have every right to celebrate it the way you wish. It is not only for Christians anymore. It is a societal tradition that will not go away as religions decline. It is a time to be happy, to...
