I'm not surprised that the 2 world sailors were killed by Somali pirates.
Missionaries have been victims for many yrs trying to convert "infidels" to their beliefs.
These 4 people killed were busy passing out bibles as they traveled.
Seems to me that their god thing has a strange way of rewarding it's missionaries....eh?
Qwark
I disagree with cagsil. Yours is a good question. I think trying to spread the Word to people interested is a noble act. God never promised to protect missionaries. Not sure if you noticed, but I think only one of the apostles died of natural causes.
Inquiring minds want to know....did they get their virgins when they went to heaven?
Logic:
Lol...I don't think they were "martyrs."
Catholicism, I think they were catholics, just want those who can genuflect, count their beads. praise the lord and do the "hail Mary stuff."
This god thing's reward system is confusing.
Know what I mean? :
Qwark
Hey Qwark, are you serious?
Even on a rational, sane and logical argument, your OP fails to stand on it's own.
Using someone's selfish belief in a god, against the delusion of a god to begin with, is quite meaningless. Blaming a god for the actions of man is never correct.
Those who were killed is an atrocity, done by humans, nothing new here.
Secondly, the reward is an afterlife, which means, those who were killed gets in a little earlier than they planned or expected. That's all.
ignorance will akways crittesize ignorance.
why? so as ro hide itself from itself.
so even they are right they are still in error, because they themselves are the error.
Kess:
You represent that comment well.
Curious,
you have only an IDEA of what the apostles died of. Noble act? Touting fairtale as truth is noble?
This god thing never promised anything. That only exists in your mind.
Cags.
Yep! the use of the word god in my comment was of course with tounge-in-cheek. Passing out bibles is an attempt to convert folks to a belief in fairytale. But all dedicated missionaries have done that with ignorance as their base.
Oh yes, their death was an atrocity. No doubt. But man has been involved in "atrocity" since the day of his "creation."
"Afterlife" is naught but the denial of mortality. Fear is the creator.
They were on a wonderful trip on a planet rife with danger. Man is the most deadly danger of all. He proved me to be true in this case.
Qwark
So does that mean it was just a trick question?
Curious:
Anything that has to do with individual "concepts" can be tricky.
So I'll leave it to you to figure out.
Qwark
Hey quark. It took me a while. But I've figured it out. Good one.
I'll sniff around a lot harder before I comment on your next thread.
Meanwhile, understanding and knowledge are waiting on the side lines watching as ignorance battles itself and constantly loses.
Q...you still bashing? I would have thought your intellect would have moved you on to higher ground...???
Hi Manly:
Interesting!
You have piqued my curiosity.
What's this "higher ground" you speak of?
Can you give me a well reasoned example?
Thanks :
Qwark
large plateaus overlooking buffalo hunting grounds...Why? What were you thinking I was talking about?
Manly:
Yes I can write, speak on the "large plateaus overlooking buffalo hunting grounds."
I don't think that would interest anyone responding to this forum thread.
If that's your interest tho, why don't you write a "hub" about that subject and I'd be glad to read it and respond.
Now, why did my response get you to thinking about "higher grounds?"
I'm still very curious.
Thanks :
Qwark
Q...you got my curiousity going as to why you are always bashing folks belief systems...? As far as you not laughing at my unique and stylish form of humor...All I got to say to that is: Buffalo Chips!
Manly:
I can also write a very intersting "hub" on buffalo chips. I'll hold off on that one.
Now in ref. to "bashing folks belief system/s...," Well golly, being a history buff and a pragmatic realist, I can find all kinds of reasons to bash peoples beliefs in the supernatural as being truth.
Can't you?
If you can't, why not?
Qwark :
I think it is quite easy to bash people's belief systems. Especially one that one does not feel an inclination for. You are proving that point here daily...
I juz' can't figure out why you do it...though?
WEll golly Manly:
(sorry for the delay, I just got back from the gym)
I thought I'd pretty much explained that.
I guess you didn't pick it up.
I'll hit it again succinctly and then end it there..ok?
"... being a history and anthropology buff and a pragmatic realist, I can find all kinds of reasons to bash peoples beliefs in the "SUPERNATURAL" as being "Truth."
I think you've made it clear to me why you can't "bash" those beliefs.
If that didn't cover it, I'd suggest you take some time to study the evolution of religion in man's history.
Thanks for the friendly concern :
Qwark
Gee golly Q whizzakers...are you leaving me homework assignments now? Q...let me get back to me first point...before you outthunk it...gees louise...Why the heck fire are you "bashing" people's beliefs in da' first place?
Beliefs = People = Happy. Happy People means we all can be Friends. Friends means we all can get along. Aren't Happy People that are our Friends great?
Gee-golly-gee whilikers...if ya haven't studied what I've suggested, I'd say, "what would it hurt if I did leave ya a homework suggestion?"
I have lots of friends who are believers in supernatural divinities. I love 'em. They are wonderful.
They all know that I hate their self imposed ignorance in reference to this god thing which they acccept as being real.
They "bash" my attitude and I bash their beliefs...but we get along fine. We accept each other and agree to disagree.
I will openly bash any "believers" beliefs when they overtly try to convert others to their historically deadly beliefs in fairytale god/s.
Especially when they program their kids with religious nonsense.
Now you have a dadgummed good day manly! :
QWark
How can I have a good day...knowing that you are out there "bashing" the brethren? Woe is me...
Should we tell him what God says about the accuser of the brethren?
Nah...
Brenda...no doubt he has read it...though i doubt he learned it!
its appointed for every man to die, it was their time its not a God factor thing. its time, whether you are a missionary or not your day will come and the end of it is just how you spent your time while on earth!

Without using the bible, nature or any of the other "normal rants" seen around HP.Please explain what it is that allows your personal belief in God or what is it that you use as your proof.I am not picking or looking for arguments...I am curious as to why you believe the way you do and...

Whilst I can't say I haven't learnt a lot from discussions on these forums, answers and hubs, one thing has become very apparent to me lately, and I'm sure I'm not alone. We are all capable of hiding behind a keyboard, saying anything in order to get the response we are seeking - be that anger,...

Curious . . . what are possible meanings for, "It is immoral to have a particular belief"?Are there implications and consequence?

What do you think a world without religion would look like? Would it be better or worse? How?
