Can scientists create life?

   Here is what I think
   
   - They would be using an existing design, e.g.: of cells, atoms..
   - They would be using existing materials..chemicals..etc
   
   Unless they can create energy using nothing, it is more like assembling life..not creating..
   
   
   what are your thoughts on this?

      What is this 'energy' thing you are talking about?
      Is that they are hiding in Libya, that the western nations are trying to get, by volleying them with bombs!

      If scientists had access to the same condition the earth was in billions of years ago, they would be using that material, however the "materials..chemicals..etc" have all evolved since then.
      
      Hence, scientists must first create those conditions in a lab and wait billions of years for time to evolve those "materials..chemicals..etc" in order for the conditions to be as they are today.

         they have??? Gee, I was under the impression materials, chemicals are of the same root stock --ultra-subatomic frequencies. How could energy that is/was ever constant "evolve" --logic check reason. Checkmate. No such probability is possible in this universe.
         
         "Science" cannot "create" anything. It is limited to the energy it is made of and plays with. Find a new energy or create a new energy unit from no other, and you'd have a case for science.
         
         Science is merely methodical "practitionism'.
         Religion less the "woop-woop".

      Typical theist argument. If you dissect everything in this universe then it all starts with some initial matter which is connected to one another to form objects in this universe. If you want to accuse scientist for not creating that mass then you need to understand that you have a burden of proof'- for proving that god created first matter to begin with or existed even before taking his mass form, which you can't do. Hence your point is moot and more of bait to scientists.

   We have power and supremacy over the matter we use and have around us.  Of course we can create the "housings" for life.  However, life itself is all around us and cannot be created by man.  We can make the housings but He puts life into it.

   nothing is created out of nothing. Try it can you creat something out of nothing. Can't be done, supplies must be had not matter what it is whether it is life or not.

            idk about  the bible...one thing I know, since energy cannot be created (as Newton says) all the energy of this universe must have come from something else...beyond that "something else" I have no knowledge.
            
            As to God's son and all that...I have read Greek, ancient Egyptian and some Mesopotamian mythology and I have to say..it looks a lot similar..

    @ts you have a point...and valid point ...on that terms no...but assembling yes...we as human race have created synthetic cell and so another 100-200 years we would be able to create complex life in lab which would be another way of bringing life than natural way...

          dont get too excited...i know you are happy that finally humans would be free from bondage of imaginary diety...but unfortunately we wont be free from concept of god...but yes as humans have made most of things possible...and it is because of thinking brain that u and me can communicate today , we would make this too...but dont worry jesus would still survive in human brain...already jesus was alien concept is becoming popular...so next god would be created and they might be given name of aliens...some other book would be written and called divine...actualsevents would be searched in those books and some or other way it was prophecy would be declared....every religion has prophecy and miracle is all comes true!!!!!!!..why?...bcoz event are interpretated and fit to verses of prophecy...
          
          we can't live without god and we keep creating it ...that has been human journey so far and might remain so till we have fundamental change in our looking outside pattern....

    Craig Venter's lab did it a couple of years ago. They created a bacteria which they nicknamed "Synthia".
    
    Just to make sure there was no dispute they inserted a couple of watermarks into the genome including "To live to err, to fall, to triumph, to recreate life out of life" from The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce.

    Scientists surely can make robots.....but creation of life is only God's matter and nobody can create a life except Him. I don't know with what thinking in the back of mind has this question been asked.....
