When will the NFL team Seattle Seahawks appear in a Super Bowl again?

Updated on September 20, 2013

The Seattle Seahawks joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team, they were placed in the NFC (West division). They switched to the AFC after just one season. They also played in that conference’s West division. Then they moved back to the NFC and the West division in 2002.

The Seahawks has made only one Super Bowl appearance. They lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006 in Super Bowl XL (40). It was the first Super Bowl held in Ford Field in Detroit, MI. The head coach for the losing team was Mike Holmgren. Gil Haskell was the offensive coordinator. Jim Zorn was the quarterbacks coach. They had two defensive coordinators: John Marshall and Ray Rhodes. Their quarterback was Matt Hasselbeck. Their featured running back was Shaun Alexander.

Head Coach Pete Carroll

Pete Carroll has been the head coach of the Seahawks since 2010. Not only he hired his own coaches to assist him, but also the current general manager. John Schneider was hired one week after Pete agreed to a contract. During the 2010-2011 season, the Seahawks became the first 7–9 team in NFL history to win a division title.

Pete will have a new defensive coordinator for the 2013-2014 season. His name is Dan Quinn. NFL fans shall see if the defensive players can progress to play tougher and better than last year, which was a successful one. The team needs to improve as two of their divisional rivals: San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams are expected to continue to be feisty teams.

The Seahawks in March 2013 traded to get wide receiver Percy Harvin from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a first-round pick in 2013 and third- and seventh-round picks in 2014. It was their way to have the team improve their capabilities to make big plays on offense. Feature running back Marshawn Lynch has carried the ball 765 times (excluding playoffs) since he was traded to the Seahawks on October 2010. Robert Turbin seems to be a good backup to Marshawn. They could get good balance attack by having quarterback Russell Wilson making plenty of passing plays. Furthermore, they can expand the offensive playbook. In 2011, the team signed wide receiver Sidney Rice to a big contract.

Russell Wilson also has other good players to throw the football to. They are wide receivers Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin and tight end Zach Miller. Golden is the player that caught the controversial touchdown on the last play of a game against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. The game was played with replacement referees in Seattle.

Unfortunately, Percy will be out during the beginning of the 2013 season with a hip injury suffered during the off-season. He is not expected to return until at least Thanksgiving.

Playoffs with Pete Carroll

With Pete as the head coach, the Seahawks are 2-2 in the playoffs.

2011 1-1

2013 1-1

To reach the playoffs in 2011, the team defeated the Rams in the last game of the season. I believe that decisive game adds fuel to the rivalry. Perhaps I’m making a big deal out of nothing. Jeff Fisher wasn’t coaching the Rams at that time.

Conclusion

My conclusion is not meant to be seen as facetious or bitter towards the Seattle Seahawks. I’m trying to be objective. During the 2013-2014 season, I wonder how many players of the team will be suspended for using enhancement drugs. Moreover, their rivalry with the San Francisco is interesting to follow as the head coaches of both team aren’t fond of each other at all.
