Who is the greatest athlete to never win a championship?

There is no shortage of big names who never got a chance to wear a ring.  Who is the big name in your mind that deserved it but never had that chance?

Dan Marino is the first person that comes to mind.

Of all time, I'd say Ted Williams. My personal favorite is Barry Sanders.

You always forget Ted didn't win one.  For awhile I thought Nolan Ryan didn't either.  Yeah, Teddy deserved a ring.

Also I'd include OJ Simpson. Due to his issues off the field, his athletic accomplishments have become overshadowed. Arguably, he's still a top 5 all time running back and one of the iconic athletes of the 70s.

The problem was his team was so enamored with getting him the ball that they became predictable and easy to beat.  A real shame.

Off the top of my head, Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson, Randy Moss, Dan Fouts & of course the legendary Dan Marino that JT mentioned previous in the NFL. NBA...Definitely Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, and sadly Steve Nash will end his career without a ring.

Don't forget nine-time All-Star Jeremy Roenick of the Blackhawks or Ernie Banks of the Cubs.

Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks never won a championship, if I recall correctly. I think he was one of the best in his day.

No doubt.  Stand up player too.  Totally deserved one.  Just ran into some great teams at some bad times.

I'll agree that Ted Williams is the greatest who has never won, but neither did his successor in left field, Yaz. How about Don Mattingly. He was the greatest Yankee who never won a Championship. Another one is Ernie Banks.

So many baseball greats had their hearts broken by the Yankees.  Tony Gwynn.  Mike Piazza.  Williams.

How about Pete Maravich?  The NBA's leading scorer for 1976-77 and something of a magician ball-handler.  In his 10 seasons he was only on four playoff teams.

Pistol Pete.  For sure.  I never got to watch many of his games but I heard he was an amazing player.  He was sort of a Dick Butkus, never got playoff opportunities.
