Soccer/football is the best, it is the beautiful game. It is not only a sport, it is a way of life and is deeply ingrained in the communities of its supporters. It requires a lot of fitness, 90 minutes divided into 2 halves of 45 minutes. No time-outs either. While some may find this hard to believe, soccer requires intelligence and creativity from the players due to its highly fluid nature. No huddles to figure out which pattern they will run, no time outs to make adjustments or receive detailed instructions from the coach. Once the match starts, players have to be able to read the game and adapt accordingly to the constantly changing situation.
Someone mentioned about parity in american football and American pro sports in general compared to pro soccer. Isn't it ironic how 'socialist" Europe employs free market capitalist practices with regard to the set up of professional soccer clubs and letting market forces dictate the salary levels and player trades while American pro sports employs socialist principles by employing salary caps and draft picks to ensure equity in terms of player quality and ability of pro clubs to compete on a level playing field.
