Do you ever make your own cosmetics at home? If so, what have you crafted so far?

Are you worried about all the terrible toxins and hidden ingredients in your cosmetics and health care products?

    I AM!

That's why I've experimented with making shampoo & conditioner replacements, tooth powder, face masks, creamy blush, lip gloss and mascara.. maybe a few other things?

Do you have any favorite recipes or tips to share?

FYI! Check out the cosmetics database at SkinDeep.org - you can look up thousands of cosmetics and see the specific chemicals they are trying to hide from you and what kind of effects they have on the body.

I'm not really too worried about toxins in my cosmetics, but I do like the idea of making my own products.  It is fun and my kids like to do it.  We've made lipgloss from vasoline, koolaide and stevia.  We made oatmeal masks.  I actually always use shea butter for hand lotion--it is just whipped vasoline but it works much better than anything else and often is toted as a secret ingredient in expensive lotions.  I know a friend who makes her own deodorant from talcum powder and coconut oil.
