   Lethal Light Bulbs - Good for the Environment - Unsafe for Children and Us - Light Bulb Ban
   
   Do you believe the new energy efficient light bulbs are lethal? Why or why not? What are your thoughts on removing children from a room with a broken mercury light bulb? How will this mandated change help or hurt the world?

   I only use CFLs in fixtures that are out of reach of children and/or cannot be knocked over.  I haven't had a bulb break yet in 8 years.  LEDs contain no mercury and are the logical alternative to CFLs, its just that the really good LED bulbs (with the best light color and distribution characteristics) are too expensive for most consumers.  Regardless, eating a tuna sandwich carries a higher dose of mercury than one would be exposed to from a broken CFL.

      1 in 5 CFL bulbs have been show to emit high levels of UV rays. It is unthinkable to me that a product thay contains mercury could be marketed as "green". Most people have no idea that you are supposed to dispose of these bulbs like hazardous waste..

   Along with the mercury, I have heard bad things about frequencies given off by CFLs and also seen reports that they don't last as long as claimed.  I'd personally go with a new LED.  Philips has some nice ones.
