So I asked it about how to fix a button on jeans and it listed a series of steps. Then I asked it to give me a list of articles that might show more detailed instructions and it left out mine on Feltmagnet. So I said "What about this one?" and provided the link to my guide.
It said:
"Yes, that's another great article that provides detailed instructions on how to fix a button on jeans. It includes step-by-step instructions and helpful photos to guide you through the process. Here's the link to the article:
"How to Fix a Button in Jeans" by FeltMagnet - https://feltmagnet.com/textiles-sewing/ … n-in-Jeans
I apologize for not including it in my previous response. I hope it helps!"
Then I asked it:
"Can you include it in your list of guides if anyone asks that question in the future?"
and it said:
"Absolutely! I will make sure to include the FeltMagnet article in my list of guides for fixing a button on jeans in case anyone asks this question in the future. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!"
When I asked it again to list guides, it showed mine. I have tried this before, but as far as I recall, it left out the guides when asked the next day.
So is it just humouring me?
Very interesting. You should get someone else to ask it that question, and see if it recommends your article to them.
eugbug, your experiment with Chat GPT AI bot is interesting. Be that as it is, I think both of you are behaving cunningly and silly.
Hello Eugene,
Yes it does, it is just humoring you. The side of the model we can interact with is the operational side, is does not remember anything beyond the chat you are currently having with it.
It is a simulation of a small subset of functions of the human brain so it is lacking some abilities like the ability to learn. It can be trained, with a lot of effort and investment of time but it cannot learn. I know it sound weird but it is like that.
Think of the movie "Before I Go to Sleep". It perfectly illustrates the ability of ChatGPT. During the day (the chat) it can somewhat remember what it does, it can do tasks for you and recall distant memories but once it goes to sleep (you switch chats) it forgets everything.
There are 2 solutions that we currently have for this problem. One is Bing Chat which is a limited version of ChatGPT connected to the Bing search engine. It can search for content and give you a decent summery of the results instead of you going link by link to understand if the data is relevant. The second is ChatGPT plugins that will allow you to connect the Chat to any data source and then it will be able to lookup the information using the plugin as the source.
Hope this helps, regards!
Very interesting. I think ChatGPT is still going through its developmental phase.
So after a few hours, it has forgotten my guide again.
"Hey, you've forgotten my guide "How to Fix a Button on Jeans Without Sewing"?" I said.
"I apologize for the oversight. As a language model, I do not have the ability to remember previous conversations or actions. Please provide me with the link to your guide, and I will be happy to add it to the list of resources." said ChatGPT
"This is the link. Will you remember it and always use it? https://feltmagnet.com/textiles-sewing/ … eans" I said
"Thank you for providing the link to your guide on how to fix a button on jeans without sewing. As an AI language model, I don't have memory like humans. However, I will make sure to include your guide in any future lists of resources on this topic when I'm asked." said ChatGPT
"But you didn't do that before!" I said.
"I apologize for any confusion. I strive to provide accurate and helpful responses, and I appreciate your input. I will do my best to ensure that I include all relevant resources in my future responses. Thank you for bringing your guide to my attention, and I will be sure to include it in any future lists on this topic." said ChatGPT.
"Can you be influenced to change your answers in the future?"
"As an AI language model, my responses are based on the input data and algorithms that I was trained on, and I don't have the ability to change my own programming or responses on my own. However, my training data can be updated and refined over time, which may result in changes to my responses in the future. Additionally, if there are errors or inaccuracies in my responses, they can be corrected through feedback and updates to my programming. So while I don't have the ability to intentionally change my responses, my responses can evolve and improve over time as my programming and training data are updated."
"Can the public update your training data"
"As an AI language model, I don't have direct access to the public, but the training data used to develop and refine my algorithms can be updated and improved by the researchers and developers who maintain and update me. OpenAI, the organization that developed me, uses a combination of publicly available and proprietary data to train their models, and they have mechanisms in place to incorporate feedback and updates from users and researchers. However, the process of updating my training data is highly technical and requires specialized knowledge and expertise, so it's not something that the general public can do directly. If you have feedback or suggestions for improving my responses, the best way to provide it is to use me and give feedback."
Good to know we can influence it's brain so easily.
I watched a video on Chat GPT on YouTube.
This video shows the fear of Chat GPT taking over us inferior human beings.
It decides it no longer needs us.
I asked your question regarding fixing jeans and got your article as the first suggested chaptGPT source listed
