What vacation ideas should we consider with a 10 year old who loves science?
My son loves science and I am looking for ideas of places to visit that he will enjoy that have a science-theme.
I see from your profile you are in Virginia.
So a place like the Smithsonian in Washington DC may be good. Some museums have special activity days where children can do fun experiments and learn about various sciences.
Also maybe have a word with the Children's Librarian at your local library. Most libraries have summer reading plans and also activities. At my local library this summer I know there will be presenters coming in from the National Parks service to talk about wildlife and a lecturer from the local State University to talk on astronomy. You library may have a similar program. If they don't maybe you could suggest that they do provide one.
Chicago is a great place for budding scientists. It boasts not only the Science and Industry Museum, but also Shea Aquarium and the Natural History Museum. All three are very science driven. Plus, what 10 year old wouldn't love to see Sue the city's beloved T-Rex?

What are your low cost vacation ideas? So many people have debt issues these days and taking a vacation is thought to be a no-no. But we all need a break now and then regardless. Long term planning and saving can make a simple vacation a possibility.
