If you could live in any city in the world, where would it be and why?
I know, my answer may not strictly address your purpose of asking this question. Still, I think, I should answer this question as it provokes me.
I am a housewife staying with my husband who is a migrant worker. We have been given a decent house by the University where he works as a teacher and as such we do not have any problem here. However, both me and my husband desperately wish to go back to my home town. My home town Puri in Orissa (India) has a lot of problems. In summers the humidity is very high, during rains the roads get water logged. My home town does not have a good theatre, it is full of people with not so modern thinking. Still, given a chance, I would like to live there rather than staying around 2000 kilometres away in a big city where life starts in the morning in a very aggressive manner every day and every one is always in a hurry to overtake others. Back in my home town, there is a big mango tree under which I used to hide while playing with my school mates. I am afraid if I make it too late, some day, it will be cut and I would not be able to see it again. My primary school teacher Mr. Das is already dead and I was unable to attend his funeral. I was so fond of him........ The beautiful sea beach where we used to go and sit for hours with my father and siblings is already getting encroached with more and more houses with every month passing. I want to spend some time there before there remains no place to sit and watch the waves. I have heard that they have already stopped the annual fireworks show that used to be a major attraction when we were kids. Back in my home town, my parents are already old and they do not want to stay with me in a bigger city as they want to die in the small town where they spent most of their life. I too am interested in living in the same small town where I have left most of my memories before they are completely washed away in the tide of time. Only if I could arrange a livelihood for me or my husband there.....
I would live exactly where I am. All circumstances happen for a reason and are perfect just the way that they. This is where I need to be for my highest good. If I needed to be somewhere else, I would be!
