Pro Tips

A custom Hub summary

Write custom summaries for your Hubs

Nothing makes one want to watch a movie like a good preview.  These brief introuductions do a wonderful job at piquing audience interest and driving viewers to theaters.

The same goes for online articles.  The summaries that accompany Hubs when they're listed in search engines and other popular Web services can often make the difference between people passing them over or clicking through to read more.  We therefore encourage you to enter a brief summary of your Hub before you publish.

The summary you enter under the summary tab of the control box at the right side of the HubTool will be used as a hidden "meta description" tag- something many search engines and web services use as summary/preview text for your Hub.  Writing a custom summary takes very little effort, but doing so can help your Hub gain extra visibility among some search engines and websites, so consider adding this activity to your regular Hub publishing routine.

An Indonesia-based private teacher finds a new family amongst the HubPages community

1. If you would, tell us more about your work as a teacher. How long have you been teaching and what do you like about it?

I have been teaching for ten years. The motto in my profile on HubPages is “share with others.” I like to share useful information with others. I hope my knowledge is useful for my students. I care a lot for my students and I love them so much though they are not my own children.  I am surrounded by my students every day. Teaching keeps my mind active and what I enjoy most are moments when my students understand what I have taught to them. I want to get involved in more than just education. As a private teacher I must be more active with a lot of ideas in teaching than a common teacher. With a more personal approach, I can give support to my students and give advice about daily life and good habits. We life in modern era; we can’t deny that technology has many effects on our lives, both positive and negative. I just support my students with positive mind.

2. You write about a variety of interesting subjects. Where do you get your inspiration?

I get all my inspiration from newspapers, magazines, browsing through internet, and even from my television. By reading, I get a lot of resources for my Hubs. Sometimes my friends and family give me ideas. Television gives me a lot of sources. I like watching news, especially world news, technology, and traveling topics. I love browsing and I usually do this in my spare time.

3. You always have the most wonderful photographs and images in your Hubs.  Do you find the photos first and explore or find them after your Hub is written?

Usually I write first and find pictures later. But something weird often happens to me, the photos give me a lot of ideas for more Hubs to be written. Photos can say anything. From pictures I can draw so much unformation. Sometimes I search the pictures after my Hub is written for new ideas. It's easy and simple, right? We need more creativity to combine the pictures and text. So the pictures give Hubs a soul.

4. Many of your Hubs are about unusual and amazing places. Have you visited any of these places?

I have never visited any of these places. But I have some experience with domestic travel. By writing on travel, my imagination can fly through the sky. Usually I close my eyes for a while and imagine I am in the place I am writing about. It is my ceremony before writing on any travel topic. So writing becomes a very enjoyable moment. It's like a real tour through some of the world's most amazing places.

5. Your Hubs are always full of detail and well-researched. How long does it take you to write a Hub?

It depends on the topic. Sometimes I need two days to prepare my Hubs before publishing. I save some of them as drafts and I continue writing later if I have time. I make it fun and I pray before I post a new Hub that I will get good feedback from my readers.

6. You always take the time to respond to comments and comment on other Hubs. How important do you think this is as a Hubber?

Commenting and reading are the most important things I do as a Hubber. We can have success here because of this. We grow up on Hubages because readers give their feedback on our writing, which is useful whether it is positive or negative. From comments I can see how my Hubs give readers useful information and how they enjoy reading my writing.  Comments are also good inspiration for me and they always encourage me to do the best for my next Hub. That’s why I must give my time to reply to all comments. If I have time, I also read my readers' Hubs. From comments I know how they appreciate my Hubs.

7. You say in your profile that writing has "the power to build communications from various directions". Could you tell us more about this?

Writing is my way of sharing my ideas. From writing I can met the people around the world. I can build good communication channels with readers from various backgrounds. Communication is not always something that requires us to talk with others in person. It can also take place through publishing and feedback.

8. You are very popular among the HubPages community and very well liked. What are your goals at HubPages and will you keep writing here?

I give many thanks to the HubPages team who helps me every time I have a problem. I feel as though I have a new family here and I have met many good people. I can’t say who they are one by one.  I always try to build good friendships with Hubbers. They are my family and I hope I can keep up with everyone well. I have been a member of HubPages for two years, which has really allowed me to build strong friendship with other members of the community. Maybe my income is far below that of successful Hubbers based on monthly earnings, but I am really satisfied with my work on HubPages. I hope my Hubs always useful. I will keep writing here.  I must be grateful for the 100 HubScore I have reached several times. This is a good achievement of a person who is living in the country where English isn’t the major language. I am far from perfect. No one is perfect, except God, right? I have to learn and learn again from the experts. It is never too late to learn and I am proud be part of the HubPages community. I will never forget this amazing experience. God has shown me the way……amen. Thank you very much.

Hub Nuggets

This Week's HubNuggets

This week Patty Inglish, MS and the HubNuggets team decided to put on a production of A Little MidSummer's Night Music in the New Globe Theatre.

Opening night was not without a couple of comedic gaffes, but that only allows the HubNuggets nominees (promising Hubs written by new Hubbers) from the Games, Toys, and Hobbies, Entertainment and Media, and Business and Employment categories to really shine!

All in all it was a beautiful performance, and thanks to the community's splendid patronage and helpful voting, I can happily present you with the winning Hubs!
