   Is it time for me to quit my job?
   
   I seem to attract a lot of bullies at work.  Don't know why, maybe I come off as weak.  My bosses decided to arrange a meeting / confrontation with without my knowlege.  He was told to back off and leave me alone - and we were BOTH reprimanded.  I stood up to him in the meeting and he actually backed down.  I don't think he'll be bothering me anymore. But I don't feel like my bosses handled this properly at all and I'm angry.  Not only is he a bully but he's lazy and smells like pot every morning. I want to quit.  I need some advice, btw, HR is aware of all of this.

   It appears that the situation has not been handled properly by the HR. You say you have also been reprimanded along with the so called bully. Since you were being  effected with the presence of the said  person, the bosses could have heard you before awarding a reprimand to you.  To meet the ends of justice you need to represent your case before the HR for settlement of the issue in a fair manner.

   If you and your boss can't communicate effectively to solve the issues you are having, then it might be time for you to look for a job elsewhere. Anger and stress leads to high blood pressure, strokes and heart attacks. I don't think any job is worth risking your health and well-being.

   The main reason that people go to work every day is to ensure that their families are fed, clothed, housed, etc. you have to make certain that your life outside of work won't suffer. Find a new job before you walk away from this one. If your wish is to stay at this job, limit your interactions with co-workers. Basically go to work to do your job, do it well, and leave when the day is done. A great little book to read is "Don't sweat the small stuff at work", it is currently being passed around at my place of work. It is helping people identify behaviors in themselves and others that are detrimental to the work place. It's quite amusing seeing the "bullies" get singled out!

   Do not be angry, read how to reduce anger, At times we feel that we are being subjected to injustice, but everything has a purpose in life, contemplate, meditate and ask yourself. If you like your company then then ask for cross functional transfer of your choice, it will divert your energy towards learning new things. And probably you will be out of an unproductive environment.

   I used to have a job I was totally bored, unsatisfied and the bosses were bullies. I decided back in 2001 to change my life. This came as a result of evaluating life in general after the towers fell in New York City. I wondered how many of those people in the towers died working in a job like the one you describe. I decided to go back to school and change my life. I quit that job in Oct. 2003 and haven't looked back since. I have a very fulfilling and rewarding career now. I often think if I had not quit I would still be there. I say plan to quit. Don't jump without a parachute. Life is too short.

   I'm struggling to understand what you could have been reprimanded for as you haven't done anything wrong but you really have to decide whether to put up or shut up. 
   
   Given that the company that you work for handled your situation very poorly and you are still working for a man you don't like, the shut up option wouldn't be my choice.
   
   The put up option doesn't have to mean quitting your job, but if this does turn out to be the best choice I would only do it with another job to go to.  Is there a different part of the company that you would like to work in?  Could you go back to HR and get a transfer?
   
   Try to turn this situation into a positive and use it to move your career forwards to where you want to go.

   Why would you quit? Do you like the job? Is the money good? Do you have any viable options?
   
   By quitting you are basically allowing "the bullies" to get the best of you. That is of no consequence though if you are not happy in your position.
   
   If you are unhappy in your job, then find a new one and then quit. Quitting with no future plans in sight is just immature and unwise.
   
   By quitting because you found something better you are basically giving the middle finger to everyone else because you found something better while they are still stuck in hell. Have the last laugh and screw them all is what I say, but don't leave until you have a plan in place.

   I never meant to imply that I would up and quit without another job in place. And no, obviously I'm not happy if I'm being forced to work with a person who has been making my life hell since he got there while my boss just let's it go. I'm not immature, I'm very depressed and feel trapped. I don't know how to make things right and my job hunt has been unsuccessful anyway.

    It's totally up to you, if its the best pay you can get, you enjoy it enough and think you can get through the bullying I'm sure you should consider staying. But if you are getting none of these why stay, make something for yourself and go looking for better options with nicer people!
