How do you handle pesky comments in your hub?

I've only had one and I just deleted it.  People are certainly entitled to their opinions but I like to keep things positive. I would never leave a negative comment on a hub.

I deny them if I think they're from some kind of spam bot. I also deny if someone swears. Personally, I don't have anything against cursing and do it all of the time, but there's no room for it in my hubs because I think someone who would otherwise share it may not. I'll gladly tolerate an opposing point of view and anything else, but spam bots and swearers get denied.

i've only denied one comment. It made by a Hubber who was selling something. It contained a link to a Web site outside of HubPages.

If they are disagreeing with points in the article, I leave it and make appropriate comment. I don't think I have had comments so bad to justify deletion. I have seen comments on hubs that were personal affronts and led to arguments. I guess I have been lucky. There are people, I believe, who like to stir things up and it causes trouble. I hope we don't have many on the site.

I think it depends on the nature of the comments.  If it is someone who I am pretty sure hasn't read the hub "good hub", I go ahead and publish it.  They might have read it, and it raises the activity on the hub.

If they are marketing or writing something that is off topic, I won't publish it, and will generally ignore them.

If they are talking about the topic but disagreeing with my viewpoint in some extreme manner, I tend to become unsure.  On the one hand, I welcome people with other opinions, and like the increased activity on my hub.  On the other hand, if the person is just writing an extreme opinion to argue and are very off base, I don't want to confuse my readers with incorrect facts, especially on a basic how to hub.

I am not sure what you mean by "pesky". If a comment is Spam I delete it without responding. If someone is just being rude, I answer them, hopefully with grace and kindness. I welcome real critique but prefer it to be presented tactfully and without profanity. I have never had that but have seen it on other Hubs.

If it's Spam, I delete it. Otherwise I respond appropriately and go on about my day.

If it's spam it's deleted, otherwise I welcome all comments regardless or whether they are nice or not.

It all depends, well this account doesn't really get any, but my other account does. If the comment is spammy then I delete it. If the person seems rude I leave it for my readers to see and beware of that person.

You know the old saying, what comes around goes around. You shouldn't be so shocked, after some of the smart pesky comments that I've seen you leave behind on hubs.

Great insights guys! Thanks for taking the time answering. I have been to a lot of hubs lately and I was kind of amazed how some hubbers are actually dropping off below-the-belt comments to other people. Just like what many of you have mentioned, it is simply unavoidable. So far I haven't received any. However, this should be a reminder to all of us that no matter how you want your opinions to be heard, you could always express it in a constructive or tactful way. big_smile

I publish everything and let my other readers deal with them if need be.

I translate The word, "pesky," as "bothersome."  Hopefully this is what you mean.  Thus far I have not received what I feel is any type of negative comment.  I have sparred a time or two with a hubber who disagreed with me on a controversial topic.  However, I see this as healthy, respectful debate and have no issue with this.  If someone left an unpleasant comment that I was annoyed by, I would simply ignore it and not respond.  Rudeness does not deserve my attention.

I was hit by a truly harsh comment once, and I simply keep it and addressed the person appropriately, but I'm fully  armed with reverse psychology tactics when in doubt, so if anyone attempts to lure me into an argument they get very little out of it or out of me.  I am quick to feed them what they aren't looking for.

Many who look to start an argument simply want to instigate something, so I try to turn them around by steering away from such conflict, a simple polite answer to a harsh question does the trick for me, and asking them what seems to be the problem works as well.  Just by asking them polite questions can help calm down a blown fuse sort to speak.

Great Question, and good luck on figuring out the best way for you to respond, because it really becomes a matter of personality when its all said and done in my opinion.

One being "annoying" and commenting at times can be much better than one being "pleasing" and never take the time to comment caused from them thinking the annoying one is you by the way you ask the question.....

I would please the annoying ones....

    and annoy the pleasing ones....

that way every one gets a pinch of comfort and just a thimble full of aggravation....

ain't that what life is all about....

duh!  Do you sing when you put the IV in or when you pull it out....

Spam is deleted. Awful cursing or personal attacks are deleted as well. If people don't agree with me, I publish the comments anyway. I don't mind opposing opinions.
