Astute political thinkers & analysts out there, why have certain aspects of African American
culture remained behind, even regressing educationally & socioeconomically in comparison to the educational & socioeconomic achievements & gains made by other non-Caucasian racial/ethnic groups such as Asian Americans & Afro-Caribbean Americans? Many Black commentators particularly Tommy Sotomayor has remarked how African-American culture has regressed in the past 30 years. Mr. Sotomayor indicated that African-American culture has gotten worse instead of better.
Academics teach that the breakdown of the black family is the legacy of slavery and discrimination. They ignore the facts. In 1950, 72 percent of black men and 81 percent of black women had been married. Only 17 percent of black children lived in single-parent households; today it's more than 70 percent. Every census from 1890 to 1950 showed that black labor force participation rates exceeded whites.

So employment rates were higher and illegitimacy rates lower when systemic discrimination in the form of Jim Crow laws was real and serious.
What has happened since the 1950s? Welfare programs that rewarded single motherhood, penalized married poor women, and led to the destruction of the black family for three generations in the ghetto.
Now you have many undisciplined young men (the result of whole communities without dedicated married fathers to keep them in line), so they join gangs and commit crimes, sire more children out of wedlock, use drugs and fail to join the workforce - and then blame whites for all their problems. And communities that tolerate robberies of businesses and assaults on citizens by blaming the rest of society don't see it get better.
The solution is changing welfare laws to say "no more children until you support yourself or marry a man who does", changing rules to not penalize her if she gets married. Come down hard on black kids attacking other black kids for "acting white" by doing good in school. Clamp down hard on crime so that businesses can open up in these neighborhoods, bringing jobs and lower prices. And change the culture to one of self sufficiency, marriage and industry versus the crap sung in rap glorifying drugs, rape, free love, murder.
But it is easier to blame whites, though it traps one in the vicious cycle that created it in the first place. And the narrative is certainly fed by Democrats who say "those evil people are keeping you down, I'll protect you and provide for you, vote for me!"
Tamara is always astute, but her post 1950's assessment falls a bit short. The economic boom that followed the 2nd World War was in part at the expense of the African American Community. Hundreds of thousands of African American workers lost their jobs to Whites returning from the war. Many Blacks left the stability and familiarity of their homes and extended families to move to the big cities for work. Social programs were implemented to ease suffering but the problem was never corrected. Democrats use this disparity to prey on the Black Community as a voting block. The last thing Democrats want are happy and secure African Americans. The old phrase " Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining." applies here.
I think it is time to rebuke the Democratic Party. "Spew them from our mouths." so to speak.
I think Trump, in all his political incorrectness, is right, "What have you got to lose?"

PC. Is it good, bad or somewhere in between? How far can PC go before it becomes ridiculous? When does it become offensive and unworkable? Examples are encouraged.Have we lost touch with (what once was called) common sense?

There was once a time, not so long ago, when Americans disagreed over policy but shared a common love for country. That time has passed. Today, it feels as though we are not simply two parties or political factions, we are two different nations coexisting uneasily within the same borders. The...

Why do political analysts on TV or radio, seem to stutter through every sentence?I can't tell if these people are excited about what they are talking about or fishing for astounding things to say. Maybe it's just a fashionable trend. Have you noticed this?

Who watched the Town Hall on CNN where Biden said Black and Brown people didn't know how to use the Internet so that they couldn't get in line for a shot? That qualifies as a racist, rambling mess at best.
