Films in 3D, are they here to stay?

Do you think they will replace the traditional way of watching movies?

I think there are a lot of improvements that will need to be made.  Some films have been extraordinary in 3-D because amazing attention to detail has been given to them, yet others are not as good.  I think 3-D is becoming an overused fad.  It's come a long way...but Hollywood really needs to take the time to evaluate what they're doing and stop churning out 3-D like it's the "fad of the week".  Get it right and use it when it's appropriate, not as simply a way to generate buzz for a particular movie.  I've seen one too many flying kick punches coming at me through the screen and frankly, it makes me nauseous..

I agree with BernietheMovieGuy, it is the new hot thing and seems to be overused right now for movies that don't need it. I think its interesting some movies are being re-released in 3-D since the technology at the time didn't allow it. For some movies it works.  I don't mind if 3D is here to stay I just hope its used only when appropriate.

ok i should point out the watching films in 3-D is not actually a new thing( as a matter of fact, it dates back to 1915) but got abandoned due to the fact it was quite expensive to produce. Anyway  replacing 2D movies would actually take some time (as shown by fact that film companies still produce 2D films with the 3D films being released) but it would definitely be replaced eventually.

As previously stated at the moment it's a bit of a fad, but it's also an expanding technology. Like all expanding technologies it will be tested on everything, fine tuned and perfected. Soon everything will be 3-d and the movies will probably loose a bit a quality because of it. After all is said and done a new technology, I don't know Holograms maybe, will take the reigns and the cycle will begin once again as it always does. Until that day we'll just have to take some aspirin and wait for the room to stop spinning.

I think its a trend, and they do it cuz they are running out of ideas for movies hha..so many old movies are being put back into theatre just because of 3d. LOL

Is 3D here to stay, well yes because there has been a huge investment in the technology, more so than in previous daliances which have come and gone.

Will it replace watching 2D movies, never. The simple reason being is that not only is the cost of producing 3D prohibitive to many studios but more importantly not everyone can watch 3D movies due to eye conditions. The percentage who wan't watch 3D is surprsingly high and so to stop making movies in 2D would alienate too many people and mean theat studios make less money.
