The Best New Fall TV Shows 2012

There are a whole batch of new fall TV shows in 2012. Some of them are set to be great and others will no doubt fail to even elicit a laugh. There seem to be a number of comedies to try and lighten the mood while you come down from your summer highs and start to enter the winter blues. Not all of them will help in this transitional season.

On the other hand, there are some great dramas, thrillers and supernatural type TV shows that are set to hit our screens this Fall that are sure to keep you glued to your TV, waiting with baited breathe for next weeks episode.

This guide will cover new TV shows airing from August to December 2012.

Network: NBC

Air Date: August 8th, 2012

Synopsis: Matthew Perry returns to our screens this fall as Ryan King, in the comedy Go On.

Ryan is a well known sportscaster who recently lost his wife. He's happy to talk about other people's problems, but struggles to discuss his own situation.

When he loses his temper at a woman that is texting while driving, his boss sends him to therapy.

Ryan needs to learn to deal with the recent loss of his wife by talking about his feelings. However, he doesn't really believe in therapy and thinks it's a joke.

The leader of the therapy group isn't really qualified to help, as she's only ever run a weight loss group.

Soon Ryan has the group competing to find out who has suffered the most, before finally opening up and explaining his wife died driving and trying to text him. She was trying to remind him to get coffee on the way home.

There are sad aspects to the show sprinkled in amongst the comedy.

The Mob Doctor

Network: Fox

Air Date: September 17th 2012

Synopsis: When Grace Devlin finds out her brother is in trouble with the Mob she would do anything to get him out of his predicament. Grace is a brilliant thoracic surgeon at the hospital in Chicago and makes a deal with the local mob boss to get her brother out of trouble. She begins moonlighting as The Mob Doctor and they come to her when they need fixing up. It's not like the can just walk into the emergency room, without an explanation.

However, this deal is no longer suitable when a previous Mob member, who is now in witness protection, is brought to the hospital for heart surgery. Grace has orders to kill this guy before he can testify against the Mob. She knows her options are limited; kill the patient or her brother dies. Will Grace break the vow she made when she became a doctor of "do no harm" in The Mob Doctor TV show?

Revolution

Find out more about the Revolution cast and characters

Network: NBC

Air Date: September 17th, 2012

Synopsis: All the buzz seems to be surrounding Revolution as the mega hit of the new Fall 2012 TV shows season. Over 7 million people have already watched the trailer and it's only been available for 8 days. No doubt this will continue to increase until the show actually airs.

The Revolution TV Show is about a father, Benjamin, who knows the electricity is about to turn off; not because he hasn't paid his power bill but all over the world. He tries to warn his brother, but is too late. He downloads something from his laptop and hides it inside a necklace pendant. When the download completes, the world goes black. Planes fall out of the sky, cars no longer run and then the show skips forward 15 years.

We are told that after the blackout everything changed. Governments no longer exist and instead there are militia groups, generals and war lords. When one of these groups comes to take Benjamin away, he gives his necklace to a friend. He agrees to go with the armed men, but his son intervenes and Benjamin gets shot. The militia take the son instead. Benjamin has time to tell his daughter Charlie to go and find her Uncle, Miles, in Chicago. Charlie will need her Uncle's help to get her brother back. The friend with the pendant goes too.

Charlie finds out from her Uncle that her father might have known why the lights went out 15 years ago... but he's not the only one with a pendant.

Revolution is very much like a Jericho meets Falling Skies/Terra Nova, but without the aliens or dinosaurs, at least for now.

Network: CBS

Air Date: September 25th, 2012

Synopsis: If you've ever wondered how Vegas became Vegas, then this is the drama for you.

The Vegas TV show coming this fall is a period drama set in the 1960's, when Vegas was changing from a small town to the gambling mecca it is now. Learn how the mob grew in power and established a foothold in the casino's.

Discover the story behind Ralph Lamb (Denis Quaid) and how he tried to stop the mob bosses and bring law and order to Vegas. He believes in the good and reluctantly becomes the Sheriff in town. He uses his skills as a rancher to round up the criminals in a very cowboy type way.

As more mob families try to make their presence known in Las Vegas a war breaks out. Everyone wants to run Vegas and they are going head to head. Only Ralph can stop them now.

Mad men fans will probably like this as it's a period drama. Also fans of Magic City will also probably like this as it's a very similar type story. I think it will be a bigger hit with the guys than the gals.

Elementary

Network: CBS

Air Date: September 27th, 2012

Synopsis: Lucy Lui and Johnny Lee Miller star in this new Sherlock Holmes drama, called Elementary. Lucy Lui plays Joan Watson and Miller plays Sherlock Holmes.

CBS have made this version of Holmes a little different. Not only is Watson female, but the show is actually set in Manhatten.

Sherlock Holmes is working with the NYPD and is a little quirky to say the least. He has a few social issues and has just got out of rehab.

Watson has been hired by his father to be his "sober companion". In other words, Watson is his babysitter to make sure he stays on the straight and narrow.

Very quickly it becomes apparent that Holmes is not "one of the guys". Most of his peers think he's strange and constantly question him and his theories. However he hits back and is consistently proven to be right.

There could also be potential romance between Sherlock and Holmes in the Elementary TV show, but we'll have to wait and see how that progresses.

666 Park Avenue

Network: ABC

Air Date: September 30th, 2012

Synopsis: Supernatural thriller based in New York at 999 Park Avenue, but it's really 666 Park Avenue.

Henry and Jane are newlyweds and have moved to New York to start a new life. They can't believe their luck when they find out that they have secured the job of being the building manager of the Drake Apartments. These apartments are swanky and they even get their own suite in the apartment. The neighbours are nice and the owners of the building are extremely welcoming. However, nothing is what it seems.

There is something wicked going on in this apartment block. Once you sign on the dotted line, you'll never escape. All the residents have made deals with the Devil to get exactly what they wanted. Eventually, the Devil comes calling for payback and there's no negotiation. What's the true cost of making a deal with the Devil and why is it so important to get Henry and Jane signed up?

If you are looking for a new TV show to sink your teeth into that has mystery, glamour, strange supernatural events and has a plot to follow then this is for you. It's got a very similar feel to Devil's Advocate.

The 666 Park Avenue TV show is also based on a book of the same name written by Gabriella Pierce. However, the story differs from the books and the 666 Park Avenue cast and characters are now even more compelling, in my view.

Nashville

Network: ABC

Air Date: October 10th, 2012.

Synopsis: When you say Nashville, people automatically think country music so it should come as no surprise what this new fall TV show is about.

Rayna James (Connie Britton) is a successful country singer, but her star is starting to fade. She's over 40 and the audience wants something new and fresh.

Her most recent record is performing poorly.

Her record company suggests that she co-headlines with the latest singing sensation, Julliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere). Juliet is young, sexy and extremely popular.

Neither of these starlets wants to do this, but are being pushed into it by their record label.

Rayna is a traditional country singer and trades on her talent. Juliet is a young pretender, who can't really sing, but trades on her assets.

Behind the scenes there's lots of drama, politics and scandal. Juliet will do anything in her power to bury Rayna. Rayna will have to decide just how far she is willing to go to survive and how much she is willing to sacrifice to succeed.

This looks like it's going to be all about what goes on behind the scenes; the arguments, the relationships and the music industry in general.

The Nashville TV show looks like it will be exciting, involve a lot of backstabbing and deceipt, but also loyalty. I thnk you'll love the Nashville cast and characters too.

More New Fall TV shows 2012

There are so many new 2012 fall TV shows and here are some details of the other's that you can expect in the coming month. There are a lot of comedies coming out and some re-imagined comics and classic fairy tales.

Animal Practice on NBC.
Air Date: August 12th, 2012.
Plot: I am actually looking forward to this show and it looks quite funny. It's starring Justin Kirk who played Andy in Weeds. Kirk is a vet that treats the animals better than their owners. He has a sidekick monkey and they have some fun in Animal Practice.

The Mindy Project on Fox.
Air Date: September 25th, 2012.
Plot: Comedy series starring Mindy Kaling as a Ob/Gyn looking for love in all the wrong places. This will be a comedy that you either love or hate. Fox thinks it's like Bridget Jones's Diary, but we'll have to wait and see if fans like it as much.

Partners on CBS.
Air Date: September 24th, 2012.
Plot: It's about 2 guy friends that live together; one's straight and the other is gay. They've know each other since they were kids and they each have partners. Once you watch the first episode, it will come as no surprise that this sitcom was written by the same writers of Will and Grace.

Arrow on the CW.
Air Date: October 10th, 2012.
Plot: This is a spin-off from Smallville and picks up on the story of Oliver Queen and how he becomes the Green Arrow. The Green Arrow will not be played by Justin Hartley, but will be played by Stephen Amell from Hung instead. Fans will have to decide if whether Amell can really pull off the lead character.

Beauty and the Beast Remake on the CW.
Air Date: October 11th, 2012.
Plot: It stars Kirsten Kreuk (Smallville) and is a re-imagined version of the storybook classic. However, this version is set in modern times. If you enjoyed Once Upon a Time then this would be a good choice for you.

These are some of the best new Fall TV shows coming to our screens in 2012. As the Fall season is when all the big TV shows debut there are lots of new TV shows to choose from. Which will be hits and which will be misses will become clearer as each pilot episode airs. It's important to remember that over 65% of all new TV shows are cancelled so it's not easy to figure out what audiences will like best.
