What Can parents do with their Kids over the Summer? Some Ideas!

   I'll bet there are lots of parents looking for things to do with their kids over the summer. I'll also bet that there are lots of parents who have at least one excellent idea of what they have done with their kids, or what they are going to do this summer. Why not pass your good ideas on? Name one or two "great ideas" for other parents to consider this summer! Thank you for sharing!

   How about asking other youngsters what they would like their parents to do with them, like go and see a concert or band?

   If the child has not yet reached the terrible teen stage you might like to think about an activity you can share with them. Fishing and swimming come to mind. Finding a park and making a day of it kicking the soccer ball around or flying a kite also comes to mind. Bush walking is another thing that will cost time but not a lot of money. What if your son or daughter wants to invite a friend or friends along? Fine. Let them. Getting to know their friends could be a good window into getting to know them better. Also the idea that their friends are always welcome will stick with them. If they want to join a football team, learn how to surf with a proper instructor, play cricket, etc this is all good and giving it your support can only help with relations. My thoughts at any rate.
   
   When they reach the terrible teens and beyond you can offer to be more a part of their world but you can't push too hard. To some extent you have to believe you have brought them up right and that they know right from wrong.

   Here is a few ideas...
   Go Camping
   Go to amusement parks
   Go to museums
   Go to the beach
   Go to the library
   Swim
   picnics
   family game nights
   movie nights
   go to the movies
   arts and crafts

   Here's what we do;
   1.Invent games involving balls/frisbees/bats/buckets; anything really. kids love it. (requires a big lawn)
   2.Set up badminton net on the lawn (kids find this game easier than tennis and it requires a bit less running)
   3.Camping (either on the lawn or at a camping site)
   4.Picnics at the beach or park (always involve games)
   5.Have a colouring in competition (requires copying off a picture equal to the number of children involved and offering a prize; include something for everyone).
   6. Make something together (could be anything from a pencil case to bows and arrows or a go-kart)
   7. Treasure hunt

   On our hubs we inform parents that when traveling with children it is best to have some type of activity they can do on their own to keep them busy. Several types of activity do well for this purpose. Coloring page work, various puzzles, like crossword puzzles, or games designed especially to keep kids busy are great.
