I'm sorry. I lost track of what I was thinking as soon as I saw this:

"I think it is very hard to explain to the American taxpayer right now whose having an extraordinary time paying bills and making ends meet that this is why we took this out of your paycheck, so we can fund this," said Thomas.

It's hard for me to trust a source whose editor did not notice the "whose" misuse from a transcription of a spoken quote.

It's just too distracting! It's "who's" darn it!

Point taken.   It's a local television station for crying out loud.  Not always the best and brightest but there's nothing to stop you researching the story for more sources if you're interested.

This wholesale kneejerk rejection of sources is getting to be pretty funny.

Lol I wasn't "rejecting" the source. I just was joking about how distracting it is to see a professional news source (even if local) make such a blatant mistake. That doesn't make the source any less trustworthy, of course.

I guess I agree with your point. It's buying friends, nothing more. I don't have anything against Mosques; I'd just rather see that taxpayer money spent on improving education and/or improving welfare and preventing user abuse.

We are foolish to ignore the fact that radical jihad against the west is generated in Mosques.

I don't ignore that most jihad start in Mosques, but I don't think that's reason enough to hate Mosques.

Jihad is a "holy" war so of course it's expected to start in a holy place, but it doesn't change that many Muslims go to Mosque without ever doing anything bad to other human beings.

The crusades started with the papacy, would that mean we should stop supporting all churches? No, because you don't punish a whole for the meanness of a few. If those Jihaders didn't have Mosques, they'd just make new holy grounds to gather in.

Besides, I thought this was a topic about providing taxpayer money for external Mosques, not about jihad.

You would glibly separate the two?  It is a religious jihad born in the Koran preached in the mosque.

I'd say mosques are very dangerous places insofar as the western world and Israel are concerned.

Radical Islam has declared war on the west and on Christianity.

Very few Muslims speak out against that war.

The ones who do have big fat fatwas sitting on their heads.

If you're trying to get a debate out of me, that won't work. I replied on what was supposed to be a topic about tax dollar misuse, and I did agree I'd rather see that money spent to improve domestic issues. I wasn't signing up for a discussion about whether mosques are places of evil.

Debating on a forum won't help anything. Only action will. If you're really that much against it, make a site, get supporters, and go (peacefully) protest. Pretend you're French. Whenever the French get pissed, they protest and they usually get the government to at least come to some sort of compromise instead of ignoring their opinions completely.

It is the mosques who have been turning in people they suspect.

              You are so predictable.

This story is a rehash of an opinion piece that ran in Newsweek. The piece was primarily concerned with the WTC Ground Zero mosque debate and included this as "background" for the story.

      http://www.newsweek.com/2010/08/06/the- … zero.html#

Evidently the thought was to cultivate support among moderate muslims. Whether it was worth the money or not who knows -- probably not. When Pres. Bush initiated it, the thought was that it didn't cost much and might bear some fruit.

How many extremists have been foiled by having no mosque?

PS: Other than Fareed Zakaria in this August 06, 2010 piece, no one, not even Fox has confirmed that this is even true. Except for the usual extremist sites, it seems to have gone cold.

How 'bout 3 billion every year to Israel.

Oh, tax dollars are also being spent to make the internet available in the Muslim world.

The internet, you know?  The other place radicalism of Muslims occurs.

Our country has lost it's mind.

How many American soldiers are in the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan? How many of their troops are in the US? How many in US war on terorism go to Christian churches?

I thought I already posted this.

I said, yes, yes, Christians are evil and Muslims are little angels.
