Why is there an 'A' next to all my Hubs in 'my account'?

Is my grade school teacher going through all my hubs? Am I getting A for effort? or is it a glitch!?!

It's because you're missing summaries.  See the codes on your account page.

LOL, three forum topics on the same thing in 30 seconds... we are an observant little bunch.  Means missing summary.

Yikes ,Ive got 4 so far!

Thought I had 4 excellent hubs lol

So,boy its been a while , do we just write the summary as a paragraph in a new text capsule?

P.S The 'A' is difficult to see HP team.

I am sure some of those did have summaries at one time or another

I just saw that and am incredibly thankful to see it.  Sometime awhile ago all the automatic summaries were wiped out, and I was left with "tons" of Hubs to write my own summaries on.  (I'd only done that sometimes and on some Hubs before.)  I got through about 40 of them one morning, but then I just got sick of it and figured I'd go back to it another time.  Since then, I've pretty much forgotten which ones I'd gotten through (and now they've all shifted in their places on the list).  So, great!  I'm happy with that gray A.   The only way I even knew that summaries had been wiped out was that Izzy mentioned it in the forums.  (Who goes looking for summaries when they think they're all there already?   hmm  )

What exactly is a summary in a hub?

It is a summary of your hub... It gets posted on Google and other search engines.

Having looked on Google today as I investigated the 'surge' in traffic - I noticed that while google will take a 'snapshot' summary it's not always the first paragraph of the Hub - I'd already decided to take a look at all of my hubs - this does make it a lot easier for me!

If you got to "edit" for your Hub there's the gray box off the right-hand side that shows things like tags, etc.  Across the top of the one of the boxes, in blue, there's different things you can click.  "summary" is one of them.

If you click that you'll see that  your Hub either has a summary or doesn't.  If it doesn't you need to write a little summary to any one who sees the Hub in a search know what the Hub is.  The summary is the first thing people will see, so it should be be well written and easy to understand (within the space allowed for a brief summary).
