    One thing I notice about this image is that its light is shed in every direction except for directly towards the hubble telescope.

    Ahh...the light is shed towards the telescope. That is what you are seeing. If there were no light shed towards the telescope, one would simply see a black screen.

    The illusion is chiefly created by viewing a three-dimensional effect in a two-dimensional domain.

    Interesting how the human mind sees the most inappropriate things in the most innocent and/or intellectual photographs and phrases.

    I'd have to say the second picture looks like a breast to me. Anyone else? Or I suppose it could be a penis with extremely large balls.
