Our Wonderful And Glorious America

   It is two days before Independence Day.   We Americans have a lot to be thankful for(believe it or not).   We have a democracy which is quite enviable around the world.   We also have an equitable standard of living.   We also have opportunities to be whomever we wish to be.    Yes, America has its problems but it has unparalled greatness.    In your estimation, what is right with our great nation and how can it be improved?

      I'm thankful that government hasn't destroyed America as of yet. But, with every step it does take continues that path anyways.
      The fact that WE(America) would be envied by other Countries, is nothing more than a self-deluded understanding of the world itself.
      Really? The standard of living in America isn't set by the people. It's controlled by the puppet masters of the morons who write laws.
      Really? There's more "hate" going on in America than there is compassion. Please open your eyes.
      Really? Hmmm.... I'll disagree.
      The ideal of America is a great thing for this Nation. It would be nice to see that ideal implemented honestly and equally(both equality in economy and equal rights). It hasn't been implemented as of yet.

   I will spend my last dime on travel.  And whenever I return to my home in California from my travels, I am more than happy to be home.  Compared to where I've been in the world, I will always feel proud and grateful that I am an American.  I was born in the United States, and I will live here until I die.  I am very aware that as a country, we have problems, but I don't waste my time on gloom and doom.  Not when I've traveled most of my life and have seen what others around the world do without.

   I love the fact that America is still a land of opportunity. Things have been really hard the last few years, yes, but Americans are resilient. We can still go out and do anything we set our minds to, and for that I am thankful. Obviously, there are a lot of things we need to work on as a nation, including working together toward a similar goal and putting the interest of the people first, but I like to think that will come with time.

         I was not suggesting that the gov't is in Americans' way.
         
         It's just that too often, it seems that our elected officials will argue a point, or oppose a law, simply to keep in line with their party, instead of working together for the sake of the American people and taking into account what the people who elected them want. That's what we need to work on.

            If there were less regulations, many individuals would be able to start their own business.  Taxi's for an example, every individual with a vehicle could immediately begin earning.  Unfortunately the cost of the license is way above the majority of individuals ability to pay. (Just one example)
            
            Government has not represented the will of the people for a very long time, unless you believe that corporations are people.

               They tried that in my home country, they got rid of Taxi licenses, kidnappings tripled and deaths in taxi accidents rose by something like 600% and everyone stopped using taxis because half of them would just lock the doors drive down a dark alley and rob you, they changed it back.

                  They should have to be licensed and fully insured, the cost of the license should not be at the $600k to 1 million dollar cost.

                     The taxi medallions only cost anywhere near that much in a couple of cities btw especially New York because they have a limit of 13 000 allowed, they tried getting rid of the limit but then traffic became unpasable and disruptive to the citizens.
                     
                     most rules have a reason for existing most of the time the conflict is because people don't know those reasons.

                        Using the taxi example, potential business owners should have to have a clean driving record, insurance, and a vehicle that is safe to operate.  Without reducing the cost, most people could not even think of engaging in this type of economic activity.
                        
                        A homeowner should have the ability to cook and sell food, even serving people in their home, and selling alcoholic beverages.  Creating fees that are more than the average civilian can afford is not conducive to a healthy economic situation.

                           All these things were at one time allowed, unregistered eateries caused the spread of illness, private bars caused irresponsible service of alcohol it became obvious that a method of checking on these things was needed, the fee covers the cost of that monitoring so the taxpayer does not have to.
                           
                           Also a food preparation and service license is not very hard to get.

                                    CIA endorses and protects drug cartel leaders.

                                 ahahah no I have no interest in doing that at all, I am pointing out you have not thought these things through, there is a reason we now regulate them because not doing so was disastrous, for example there was a public outcry for the introduction of food safety inspections because people were tired of getting sick and dying from being served bad food, then we need to pay for the cost of that inspection and license so the owner has to pay a fee, very simple.

   I've been to the USA a number of times, but personally would not choose to live there. I prefer being somewhere with less political correctness and with guaranteed health care.
   
   I did think New Orleans was great fun though (this was before the disaster).

   Traveling to a place is totally different from where you decide to live.  I've lived in California all of my life, and people who are not from here are always teasing me about being from a place of "fruit and nuts."  Big deal!  California is familiar to me, and I love being here!  Two years ago, I took a road trip from California with hubby and covered plenty of states.  How fun could that be?  All these friendly people who were willing to tell me stories and give me advice on how to get around their towns.  I have also been to Alaska and Hawaii several times, and will continue to do so.  I've met so many wonderful people from my travels here and abroad , but I can honestly say that I love those Americans.  And I am proud to be one of them!
