Yes, Tammy, barbarians and neaderthols threaten the civil discourse among civilized people. How does the GOP keep the ugly wart on the face that it presents to world from actually being seen and commented upon? They have not done too good of a job thus far.

Credence2, The part that really blows my mind; so many women still support him...I just do not understand that. It opens the flood gates and turns our country in a retrospective position that wil never be able to compete in the global economy.

I hope your right about that...I am flabbergasted by the extremism of the GOP today...I honestly believe our seperation of Church and State policy is the fundamental reason for our power as a nation...mixing that all back together, well we would be no different than the middle east...

It is so far right that, (to them), Obama looks far left, which we know he's not.  He's closer to being a centrist than most will acknowledge, left of center.

RebekahELLE, He is the most center dem ever...he is more center than Clinton...His foriegn policy is almost Conservative, I guess that is why Romney agreed with him so much. This is a scary day for our American culture.

This is a gender issue. I can't believe that in this day and age, women are still having to listen to this kind of crap, from some man who will never know what it is to be raped and conceive a child from rape. Who the F does he think he is? He should only make judgements about circumstances which he is likely to experience one day. He needs to shut up, the hypocrisy is sickening.

Hollie, I know, it's insane thinking that I can not even comprehend...If that party takes over I fear our future as women, I have 4 daughters, the oldest is my step the youngest only 4...I never would have believed I would be worrying about this for their future.

You're right Tammy, it's frightening. I don't live in the US, but this IS a gender issue and what happens in the US tends to eventually happen here. I have one daughter, she's 15, I worry about her so much, too. You don't have to be a bra burning feminist to see that what is coming down the line does not play out well for women, not at all. I hope those nut jobs never, ever see power.

Seriously though, have close family members or concerned neighbours not considered the "sectioning" option? I mean, here is a man who clearly believes that women who have been raped might have avoided their fate if only they had "prayed a little more" there appears to be some major psychological/perhaps psychiatric issues there. And, he certainly appears to present as a danger to others, if not to himself.

THANK YOU, Hollie.    How DARE they tell a woman to forcibly endure an unwanted pregnancy, espcially one as a result of a violent act!   How egregiously insensitive indeed!    Has this  so-called GOP candidate lost what is left of what little mind he has?!

Repairguy, I am guessing you are a man, but gyno visits and controception are basic healthcare needs of women, many women use contraceptives for other reasons than merely birthcontrol...I myself was having personal problems, I will not go into to detail, but I had to use birthcontrol at age 35 and then schedule a surgery this year...Roe v Wade was a huge fight, there are many reasons for abortion and DNC's being such, but now this right wing zealot comes out and blames the woman for being raped, that she didn't pray hard enough! Those are the rights inwhich I speak, and it opens the flood gates....

I think the thought, and after reading the whole article, was that any pregnancy is a gift from God. Just because the means to that pregnancy was horrible, does not mean the child will not be a gift from God.

    1. tammybarnette profile image60
tammybarnetteposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Yes, that is what he meant, the baby is the gift from God, I have a problem however with the idea of women being forced to have their rapist child...it is not the babies fault, of course, but that is between a woman and her God, government should never be allowed to intervene...

    There is no ambiguity here.
The Republican platform is to outlaw ALL abortions. No exceptions.
That is quite clearly Paul Ryan's stance.
Romney in the primaries said he would be DELIGHTED to sign legislation outlawing abortion.
He has 'softened' his position recently in an effort to pull in unsuspecting women voters.
But, Mourdock is the ONLY Senate candidate Romney endorsed.
He must be very, very familiar with Mr. Mourdock.
He says he wants him in Congress.

Atkins, Mourdock, Walsh, Ryan -- there are many more who are smart enough not to talk to the media about their agenda.

Anyone who thinks Roe v. Wade is not in play has not been paying attention.
We have a little under 2 weeks to WAKE UP and PAY ATTENTION.
A Romney SCOTUS WILL Repeal Roe v. Wade.

I know a woman who says "if you were raped, and you become pregnant, then the child was meant to be there."

It's not really an uncommon belief, especially with Christians, which make up a rather large portion of the population. I don't see why it's surprising, or even news-worthy, that someone in the GOP believes this.

While I never begrudge anyone for their religious beliefs, I consider it a fallacy that religious beliefs should somehow translate in political beliefs.

Religion is a lifestyle. It is impossible to remove it from the way you live your life, particularly politics, and more particularly because today's American politics are centered around beliefs of "rights" and "wrongs."

kathleenkat, I watched an interview of Santorum last night, as we know he is also very religious, he of course stuck to this same ideal, but when pressed about his own daughter he eventually said of course he would still love her if she made a "different" choice...I think policy sometimes reflects grand ideals and beliefs, but human nature is far less black and white...we should never judge another especially if we have never walked in those shoes...I believe the seperation of Church and State is the fundamental difference between the American culture and the rest of the world, I believe it is imperative that it is upheld, and would be unconstitutional to do any different, our rights as American citizens should reflect the variety of beliefs and cultures that exist within our borders.

Just because it's not uncommon, it doesn't follow that we should just not talk about it and debate it.

It was very common at one point in American history to find the majority of whites believed in slavery, and also called themselves Christians.  The claim itself must be evaluated, and a "consensual validation" is not a defense.
