New exclusive page 1 Google idled

I have a hub that has barely had a chance to see traffic that is an exclusive. I guess I can make it longer and add some more stuff. Surely, it would have had more traffic, given time, if it was on the first page with my keywords. It was the at the bottom of page 1. It is about the brain, and I wrote an article about the brain previously that is one of my best performers.  I still believe that hubs are not given enough time to secure traffic before idling. Do you think they give new hubs consideration, or do they even know what is new?  The title is not the greatest, I don't think. The hub has no title tuner info. It has 805 words, 5 photos, and three links to resources.

That's a tragedy! What a waste of time and effiort. It's happened to me. I suggest you email HP and ask for explanation (there is a form - https://docs.google.com/a/yieldbuild.co … Mmk1QVE6MQ)
and for the title to be changed manually (try Jaaxy.com - free trial) to find a competitive alternative). All the Exclusives need to be checked as only about 10-20% (from my quick check) are competitive.

All that work gone down the drain all because we put our trust in shallow promises.

Thanks for response. Didn't you or Melovy have a problem recently?  It took a long time for this hub to be indexed by Google, so it didn't have a chance. l

I'm sorry that happened, brakel2! We're working on changes to the QAP to prevent things like this from happening.

I do hope that you edited the Hub to get it re-Featured though. You did, yes? big_smile

Hi Simone  I edited it this AM, so it is back in pending. Thank you for responding to my post. I have a question about pending status. Google and Bing recently visited the hub. Does this mean it might come out of pending while it is still indexed? After Habee's post, I became concerned that quality hubs become idle. I know you are working on changes, so good luck.

I've been pretty disappointed with the exclusive titles. I've had a couple to be idled, even though they contain lots of info and photos. One includes 2,000 words, 20 photos, and a table. I really don't think I can add much to it.

IMO its the title itself that is generally the problem (for a low traffic idle). I got HP to change the Exclusive title to a more competitive one (I did a lot of research) and the traffic came and kept the grim reaper away. The fact that you cannot change the title is a real pain in the butt as it means the hub is doomed. Someone suggested that you can use Title Tuner to change the title, but TT does not work for me. The real irony is that if you delete the hub, the failed title goes back in the bin for someone else to waste time with. I tend to use the Exclusives for research ideas, but never use them now, due to the inability to change them.

Apparently exclusive titles are not actually tested to see whether they are competitive.  They are picked from a database of titles, and then curated by an HP employee, but without competition research.  No idea where the database comes from in the first place, my suspicion is it might be from a "google suggest" scraper (you know when you start typing a query into google, it will auto-suggest based on what other people type in).

Since your hub was at the bottom of page 1 so quickly, I don't think it was the competition that was the problem, but the search volume.  If very few people searched for the keyword, then you would not get much traffic, even if the competition was low and you made it to page1, no matter how excellent your hub is.

Can you tell us what the keyword in the title was.  Or what the title was?

Basically it seems to me that exclusives in no way guarantee a good keyword, as janderson says.  Some of them have very low search volume, others have high competition.  You need to research the keyword yourself.

Of course sometimes, even if the main title keyword is not competitive, you might still get traffic for other keywords in the text, but that is really down to luck.

I agree that an exclusive is not a guarantee of success. I always do more keyword research and learn a little bit more each day about SEO. I think it takes a while to be an expert at it.
