Links in Hubs, Questions and Forums

   I know that it is against HP rules for someone to place a link in a comment of a hub, but is it okay for someone to place a link in a comment when answering a question, even if it directs people back to their hub?  Also, it seems to be okay to place links in the forums' comments, as the link will take one directly to the issue on HP?  I want to clarify all of this for sure, as I feel bad when I have to delete a great comment from a follower but who adds a link in a comment in a hub, question and/or on a forum.  I am just not real clear on the questions and forums, as I know it is not proper for them to place a link in a hub comment.  Thank you for clarifying this issue for me, as I want to do whatever is right by those who comment on my hubs, questions and forums.

      No it isn't, actually.  It's just considered very bad manners, because the commenter is taking the attention away from that Hub to one of his/her own. 
      
      
      
      Yes, absolutely - that was the whole original purpose of the questions section, to write a Hub to answer the question rather than just post a short reply.  So posting a link to a Hub you've already written is also fine.
      
      
      
      It is against the rules to post a link to your OWN Hub in any forum.  You can link to other Hubs as much as you like.  The only exception is in the Improving Your Hub section, where you can post links to your own Hubs to request critiques.

            It happens!  Anyway sometimes it helps the OP to read two answers expressed in different ways.

         That is a good point about the bad manners, as it does take away from one hubber's hub to their own hub.

            What you have to do is look at the comment and ask yourself, "why did this Hubber leave this link?"   If the link leads to a useful site which adds value to your Hub, then you can approve it.  But most of the time, you'll find the link leads to a poorly written site, or one selling something you wouldn't want to recommend to your readers - and those links will harm your Hub's reputation.  So don't allow those!

               Thanks Marisa, yes, that would be the last thing I would want to do is direct my readers to a poorly written site by allowing a link on my hub to be left for sure!  Great point there!!!  Exactly, do not want to harm one's very own hub's reputation.  All need to be mindful of such to make sure the link is a good one and not to leave it if on one's hub if otherwise.

            It was much worse when links in comments were followed links.  Now, they are NoFollow.  Some Hubbers who don't realize that are still trying to get link juice from posting links in the comments.  Now, however, if you post a link to your own Hub in a comment, it tells Google that the link is not recommended!
            
            (Links in Questions and Answers are still followed links.)

               Oh, that is great to know, dear Writer Fox! I never thought it was fair for someone to put one of their hub links in another person's hub! It makes sense they are okay in questions and forums.

      It's not against the rules to include links in hub comments.  Each hub author has the sole discretion to delete or accept comments with links. If you don't mind the links, then you can approve them and it's no one's business but yours. Most people tend to delete them because most of the time it's just spam or blatant self-promotion
      
      
      Since people have the ability to put links to any site in their answers and their comments on answers, it's obviously not against HP's rules.  If it were, HP would have disabled links in answers and comments. As before, it's up to you whether you accept or delete the answers/comments that contain links.  If they're acceptable to you, keep them. I'm sure you have good judgment and can tell the difference between helpful links and spam.

         You make a very good point. I hate when people leave links in their comments to my hubs when they seem only to do so to promote their own work and I'll delete those. However, if the links are a way to provide more information to the discussion or to show me where or how my facts are incorrect, I leave them so other people can read the pages.

            Oh, thank you so much dear Sheila for explaining your rationale about the issue.  Yes, sometimes when they are place in your hub, and directs them away from your hub to their hub, then it is a bit rude, but if it is to help and answer a question, then that is different altogether.  Good points here.

   Oh, thank you both so much, as I always thought it was against HP rules for someone to post links in other hubbers' hub comments. I do not know from where I thought I read that ...oh I remember I was reading a hub one time and someone posted a link in a comment in the hub and the author, a hubber with a near 100 hubber score at the time, commented back and said "Sorry, but I am going to have to delete your comment as it is against HP rules to leave an link in a hub comment." So, all links are good to go in all areas except on your own hubs? Thanks for the clarification and I apologize to those hubbers' links I have deleted due to my ignorance.

   Honestly I didn't know if it was permitted or not to put a link in an answer to a hub.  I did it a few times but not a link toward my own hubs but more toward extra informations that could be relevant to the person writing for example (usually medical subjects).  I would not put a direct link toward my own hubs because I would not want to remove the attention of the readers from the hub they are reading.

      Hi Joelle, I wasn't sure either, then I read what another hubber did to a link placed in her hub and I thought, oh, I better start deleting them, and I felt bad.  So, I thought I might just inquire here, and I am glad I did, as when you put your links, you are actually helping someone and not directing to your own hubs.  Hope you are having a lovely weekend dear friend.  Hugs

   Its always good to read the forum messages. You learn a lot there. Again i learned about links in the comments. Ive never done it so far as I know, unless someone asked and then I usually look to see if that person has a Facebook page or any other network address where I can post the link..
