"President Obama will send up to 450 more U.S. troops to Iraq to step up the training of local forces as they battle the Islamic State, officials said Wednesday.
'This training, advise and assist mission builds on lessons learned during the past several months and is just one aspect of our commitment to support the Iraqi Security Forces,' spokesman Josh Earnest said.
Earnest said Obama has also ordered 'the expedited delivery of essential equipment and material' to Iraqi forces seeking to re-claim territory CAPTURED by the Islamic State."

Right?
How similar to a GWB's foreign policy choice . How quickly the false rhetoric becomes the norm . Thank you to all who voted for an image .
Do you really want to spend another $2 trillion on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan chasing after terrorists and "weapons of mass destruction" instead of crumbling roads and bridges?
Do you think the current 11,600 troops in those countries, which has increased by a few thousand as the result of intense congressional pressure, is as bad as 187,900 during the peak of those wars?
Who in the US doesn't know for a fact that any other American president we ever had (yes, including Carter) would have wiped out these Islamic terrorists by now? This president apparently has different plans or does not listen to anyone military advising him. I am sure we will hear all about it once he is gone. Maybe we can understand the why then if it is not too late...who knows? Beheading babies! The US does not put up with evil like this! Only evil could.
Really? Islamic terrorists struck many times during the administrations of Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and both Bushes, so yeah, we know for a fact that "any other American president we ever had" did not wipe them all out. It's not possible to do so. For every terrorist killed, several others are created.
Interesting what you think you "know for a fact." LOL
This president " rolls over " every time another terrorist faction wants to drive home their point , meanwhile he does the wave with Castro and tangos in South America while Americans bleed in the streets . Ya !...... I want one more like him !
Please provide specific examples of how Obama "rolls over" every time a terrorist faction wants to drive home their point. I'll keep checking back until I see your post.
Was there a terrorist attack on American soil while Obama was doing the tango, or doing the wave with Castro (whatever that is)? Wow, I missed that. Or, are you just talking about any American, somewhere, bleeding in the streets from who knows what (a car accident? falling and conking a nose?) while Obama was doing the tango? I'm mighty confused....
ahorseback's thread "Political correctness"
http://hubpages.com/politics/forum/1356 … rrectness-
Remember Brussels, Belgium where American's were bleeding in the streets. Do some reading and please do come back again. I can see that you are mighty confused as you say.
Obama went to the baseball game in Cuba. ... then, Obama was in Argentina doing the tango. I know that is confusing...heart-breaking.
So, let's see, if Obama hopped on the Presidential jet and flew to Brussels, what would you have said? Great job, Obama! You stopped the Americans from bleeding on the street! Somehow, I sincerely doubt you would have praised him for it.
The attack occurred while Obama was on a historic visit to Cuba. Obama is capable of doing two things at once. He was briefed on the bombings and released a statement that "We will do whatever is necessary to support our friend and ally Belgium in bringing to justice those who are responsible." He is also quite correct that he should not change his plans and let the terrorists dictate his every move. That is exactly what they want. That would be "rolling over."
So, let me ask this, are you suggesting Obama drop what he's doing every time there is a terrorist attack in another country and fly to their side? Or what are you suggesting? What would satisfy you?
Anti-Obama folks are very quick to criticize him from doing his diplomatic duties, but they seem to have conveniently forgotten GWB's reading to kindergarten kids during the attacks of 9-11, something he had never done before. He didn't even look surprised when he was informed of the attacks.
Yes, and that was an attack on our own soil. Notice how colorfulone will not answer what she expected Obama to actually do, what action he could take that would result in her approval. Notice how ahorseback never answered my question about specific examples of Obama "rolling over." Neither of them can back up their own criticisms.
Trust me sweetheart, I have not forgotten 9/11 and GWB. Two weeks beforehand a friend of mine came to me and told me that we had to pray because there was going to be a bomb dropped on New York. He is a prophet so I did not dismiss him. Once we began to pray, I knew he was right that something real bad was going to happen...and for two weeks I prayed and wept. On that morning I got a call to turn on the TV...I was horrified. I cried for days as I grieved deep in my soul. For weeks I would begin trembling because I was still in shock. I still cry and pray for the people in New York, and for those who were seriously wounded, those who lost loved ones. I will never forget 9/11 ... it was an inside job, and Bush just happened to be the president at the time. But, the Bush family is as corrupt as the Clintons and the Obamas who are all puppets of very evil masters. I could go one, but I do not like the righteous indignation I feel right now remembering.
PrettyPanther, I don't answer stupid questions. Did you ask one again? Never mind. Its really disgusting! (don't talk to protesters they're trolls)
ahorseback, is a wonderful man! Maybe he doesn't like answering questions by picky little controlling hairballs, I don't know. shrug!
What has Obama done? I have said a lot about that here.
http://hubpages.com/politics/forum/1331 … president-
I'm surprised a prayerful person calls other people stupid and trolls.
I am a person...not a saint.
Who called someone stupid or a troll?
I don't answer stupid questions.
(but, I don't see that someone asked a me question at all)
Tip: don't talk to protesters they're trolls
Its a good tip, we should ignore them!
LOL, this picky controlling hairball asked some questions that I don't think are stupid at all.
You took issue with Obama's response to the Brussels terrorist attack. I asked you, more than once, what you think Obama's response should be when there is a terrorist attack on foreign soil? Specifically, what response could have have given to the Brussels attack that would make you say, "Good job, Obama!" I would still like to know. I don't know why you think that question is stupid, but perhaps you could explain it to me.
As far as ahorseback is concerned, he questioned the multiple studies showing that children are more likely to be injured or die in households with guns than in households with no guns. I asked him to show me studies that refute that. He has not done so.
These are legitimate questions. I'm beginning to think you refer to anything you cannot answer as "stupid." Please prove me wrong.
Bush wasn't surprised. He knew the attack was coming. In fact, quite a few people did from what I have read.
I flew out of Seattle and landed in Norfolk the day before the attack. Both airports were swarming with security people. Everyone was thoroughly searched, more than any other time among many times I have flown.
They knew about when the attack was coming. They just didn't know the exact where and how.
I don't blame Bush for the attack. No security will ever be perfect.
I don't think we can afford to spend another $2 trillion on wars in the Middle East to protect those countries from each other.
It's a bit ironic that conservatives complain about the current national debt -- driven sky high by tax cuts and the Great Recession -- but don't mind historically low tax rates and a military budget that is 7X larger than the next largest on the planet.
Odd, I have asked them (conservatives) to explain this contradiction to me as well... ( the silence has been deafening)
And just for the record, I am a fiscal conservative and social moderate. I am not a liberal.
If you make the statement that you did, perhaps you are not as conservative as you say??
Good question, Credence. I make that statement because I am often accused of being a liberal when I say something that doesn't fit with far right conservatism.
For the record, I said I was a fiscal conservative and social moderate. I didn't say flat out that I was a conservative. Right of center would be a more accurate description.
That being said, I hope you agree that we can't afford more trillion dollar wars right now.
I do agree wholeheartedly about the waste and futility of our defense outlays.
"Moderate conservative' is a term I associate with the wooly mammoth. I don't know that there is such a thing in todays political climate.
Acknowledging the idiocy of massive tax cuts with no realistic plan to bring spending in line, is taking a clear stand against bedrock conservative philosophy. According to the GOP, massive tax cuts, with money thrown at the defense with cuts out of social services is the definition of a fiscal conservative, these days.
I am just saying that taking the positions you do seem uncharacteristic of 'fiscal conservative'.
There is still time to come over from the 'dark side'........
I would argue that bedrock conservative philosophy includes both tax cuts and spending cuts. The principles haven't changed.
The problem is a system that has become corrupted because money controls everything, and the elites have the money. So they bend the system in their favor. Citizens United is another ridiculous step in that direction. Democracy suffers.
Both surveys and a lot of anecdotal evidence indicate that the rise of Trump is partly the result of the Republican base getting fed up with the party catering to the elites and ignoring the middle and upper middle classes who have traditionally supported them.
The GOP will stop Trump, lose his supporters and rise again because voters have short memories..
I don't think I'm in the dark side. That belongs to the elites and the people who still believe their propaganda.
"Both surveys and a lot of anecdotal evidence indicate that the rise of Trump is partly the result of the Republican base getting fed up with the party catering to the elites and ignoring the middle and upper middle classes who have traditionally supported them."
Promisem, that was spot on..
Unfortunately, I am seeing the same nefarious forces at play in Democratic Party politics; machine, big money donors, superdelegates that can subvert the democratic process. etc.
In spite of the reality of Republican favor toward the rich and powerful, GOP have managed to convince the man on the street that the problems that they experience are coming from the poor and indigent rather than from the elites that they insist on protecting at any cost.
There are lot of people disenchanted with the system, Trump is a protest vote as he deviates from GOP ideological dogma to some extent.
Hi Jackie. From my research at this point in time, I think George Washington was the only truly honest president of the US, who wanted to protect America from Islamic interference. I have studied each of their doctrines (that are available) and many of the presidential letters at the Library of Congress. Of course Washington's were hand-written (as were our other founding fathers).
The Persian Gulf region was first proclaimed to be of national interest to the United States during World War II. What a mess that was under Franklin D. Roosevelt. However, that war was planned long before he ever took office. He too was in defense of Saudi Arabia as are US interests today, sadly.
Jimmy Carter in his State of the Union Address on January 23, 1980, which stated that the United States would use military force if necessary to defend its national interests in the Persian Gulf. Petroleum was the central importance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carter_Doctrine
I think Reagan came in with honest intentions, but after his attempted assassination he was never 100% and became a puppet.
I'm not saying that these conspiratorial presidents were all bad as humans go, not at all, but they have been puppets used for ignoble purposes that were not in the best interest of the US and 'We The People'.
Obama will no doubt go down as the worst president in US history. He has made all the others look good. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama...has been a disaster!
It is funny watching history repeat itself only with more calling for more dedication. We lost in Korea, we lost in Viet Nam, we lost in Beirut, we lost in Somalia. These were all actions we took to vanquish an enemy of ours by tagging onto some other countries fallen regime. In each instance we failed miserably and the forces that won were deterred little. Is it your contention we should just use all the force we have to take these people out despite the historical consequences of failure we have proven time over time? Our meddling in this situation just escalates it worse and we still want to repeat it? The answer to this situation and upon the advice of top generals is to come up with a political solution that has been ignored since the British broke the region up after the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
Maybe we should focus on border control to the max? Let them deal.
But there's that pesky OIL situation.
The oil situation is a figment of our own imagination. The Saudi's who are our major oil supplier are already defending themselves and well it should be that way. This is a Sunni/Shiite battle for supremacy. Let them find their way. If Saudi Arabia needs help down the pike then we should re-visit our terms. Perhaps cheaper oil?
What we really have is a threat being turned up by Israel so that we will be in their corner. We always have been to our undoing of the stability of the region.
Nice! That is such a pithy answer to my questions. I would genuinely like to know what actions Obama could take after a terrorist attack in another country that would make you say, "Good job, Obama!" Please tell me. I'm so curious.
George Soros has admitted that he is spending $3 million on this election. King Koch has admitted that he and his brother are spending $900 millioin.
You are on point again, Promisem.
Conservatives have been careful to shroud this little detail about the sheer magnitude in the difference between Soros and Koch brothers' spending to influence the outcome of the election, thank you...
Conservatives in our current political stew would never admit this, pretty level headed for a guy 'right of center'.
How does anyone or group or organization or government fight lone terrorists or more? Every terrorist must surely be a poor mixed up and miserable soul slinking, hiding, using the internet. Using the internet to catch and recruit. who are their leaders? how are they gaining power? who is backing them? and ultimately how can Islamic Jihadist /Militant terrorists and their false religious doctrines be halted in their tracks?
They are being indoctrinated from a young age. Perhaps all people can target this indoctrination as human abuse. Perhaps it should be stopped in whatever society they live in by the people who live there and know this ideology is straight from the astral pits of hell! Perhaps we need to teach these people to recognize it and report it ? deal with it? as psychological abuse.
Deal with it fiercely at its core. The UN should develop a campaign of Education for Human Betterment to End Terrorism.
Operation Cyclone was enacted by the Carter administration.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Cyclone
Under Reagan, and Clinton (updated lesson plans) millions of jihad training textbooks have been provided by the US to the Middle East. Its a part of the CIA intelligence. It was created to bring down the Soviet Union to begin with...and the textbooks are still being used for jihad training... The violent tenets of the Quran were used to radicalize Muslims. So, the US created this evil monster. And yes, children are being trained from a very early age.
It is very complicated now, but the objectives of war still remain pretty much the same. It is no wonder America is hated, but it is not the people's fault...it is the governments and their rulers fault. And to be truthful, they didn't know what the hell they were doing to begin with...but, they do now.
ISIS was created under the Obama Adm. (I am guessing that updated modern textbooks were provided). We know US training and support is provided. Obama says 'ISI' which is a covert operative of ISIS, he will not say radical Islamic jihadist terrorists.
You see it is Republicans and Democrats establishment / elites alike. People who still think otherwise are living in deception.
Forgive us all ye nations, we are but sheeple.
HA Ha Ha! In my imagination George Soros (Sorrows ) and the Koch brothers work with the UN to give poor Middle Eastern people chrome books for the global organization: Education for Human Betterment to End Terrorism!
Instead of weapons and bombs and such.
These men will die unhappily the way they are going.
Its not too late to change direction, you people with all the money and power.
Shoot for life/joy. Not death/sorrow.
If only.
Okey Donkey! Carry on!
Sorry, I didn't bother reading all your post.
Sounds like an ax to grind.
I love memes and satire!
This is a very interesting conversation, but one point is missing. Our military is broke. After almost a decade and a half of war with the smallest armed forces since before WWII, not to mention three years of sequestration (almost uncovered by the media), they are at bare bones strength levels. We would be hard pressed to invade Canada right now. When I hear people suggest going into Iran or Syria, I want to tell them, unless you are prepared to go yourself, come up with a better option.
The middle east has always been about choosing the least objectionable of all the choices at any given time. We've made ourselves dependent on Saudi oil because it was cheap. Now that we've had to figure in the cost of 15 years of war and the loss of more than 4,000 young people, it's not so cheap any more. As far as I'm concerned, we can run our cars on corn cobs, and the last Americans in the middle east can turn out the lights on their way out the door.
If we had drawn down our forces in 2006, we would be where we are today. rhamson is spot on: "This is a Sunni/Shiite battle for supremacy. Let them find their way." Are there terrible things happening? Yes. Was this situation going to happen whenever we left? Yes. Can we solve the problem? No.
It is interesting to note that even with a military drawdown, our military expeditures dwarfs that of our potential adversaries at exponential levels.
It is only the old guard that wants to tie the American economy to a dependence on fossil fuels. This in turns ensnarles us in the eternal squabbles of the Middle East and I, for one neither desires nor can I afford to be globocop any longer.
"It is only the old guard that wants to tie the American economy to a dependence on fossil fuels."
With Nixon's deal with the Saudi's he inextricably tied the value of the American dollar to oil.
“According to the agreement, the United States would offer military protection for Saudi Arabia’s oil fields. The U.S. also agreed to provide the Saudis with weapons, and perhaps most importantly, guaranteed protection from Israel.” [1]
“What exactly did the United States want in exchange for their weapons and military protection?
The Americans laid out their terms. They were simple, and two-fold.
The Saudis must agree to price all of their oil sales in U.S. dollars only. (In other words, the Saudis were to refuse all other currencies, except the U.S. dollar, as payment for their oil exports.)
The Saudis would be open to investing their surplus oil proceeds in U.S. debt securities.
You can almost hear one of the Saudi officials in a meeting saying: "Really? That's all? You don't want any of our money or our oil? You just want to tell us how to price our oil and then you will give us weapons, military support, and guaranteed protection from our enemy, Israel? You've got a deal!"[1]

national sit-in is what we need. no more GOING to war. oh, what a hippie-ish remark …
But what if guys/gals realized they were going to war for nothing or worse (becoming permanently disabled or killed) and stopped enlisting?
Return of the draft / return of student uprisings?
I guess the warrior class, drifting souls, easily deluded/gullible are always looking for something to do.
Enlisting to fight / man / patrol the borders would be valid patriotism, however. Until there is an obvious need to defend ourselves and we know who the enemy is … what else can be done.
Meanwhile, we watch the show.
"Return of the draft"
This combined with a no deferment policy for the elitists children would go a long way in stopping the senseless repeating of stupid wars where we only throw those "expendables" of the citizenry at it.
I can't say that you don't make an excellent point, because you do. But having spent more than 45 years around soldiers during the volunteer era, I can testify that all the ones I've known would much rather fight along side a volunteer than someone who is forced to be there.
Dr. Jewlove, Supremacy Trumps
This story is like the movie Strangelove just changed the date and race.
I’ve had many great relationships with Jews; although not as nearly as close as Trump has with these kinds of Jewish People (the political correct name would be Zionist. No Jews complain about his Presidency run, strange. Lucky for him it’s cheap enough to accommodate only 5 million Zionist into a luxurious’ Bomb shelter
Trump says he has not one racist bone in his body. What about what’s under his hat? He could make a very honest President too, if it were not for it being custom for the best liars to wins.
Another group that supports Trump very well, is the Grand Duke Wizard KKK former leader , yet not all KKK support Trump some support Ted Cruz. Megalomaniac are US. Many scientists forgot to tell them that in every human being on earth. We have the DNA black gene, don’t shoot, I love you all.
Lucky for Trump 2/3th of America is white as GW Bush got elected too on just interior America whites. After all America have had 43 white Presidents and one half black sheep all living in the white house. I’m sure there are experimenting on white rats depopulation problem in their white lab coats. For the fear of the browning of America, since 86% of the world are people of colour. UN also wants to depopulate the earth with GMO foods and toxicant too. Why not most poor whites just stick a knife in their neck. Or with all the gun raising and the NRA Grimm stories for their children to have gun. It is good to have guns for or from suffering the world’s nuclear build-up and blast.
I’m white and approve the message, do you?
I can't argue the circumstances for military service but I will demand the conditions being equal. My father was in the Korean War and he repeatedly said that the draftees were treated different than the lifers and that he found that the draftees were just as ready and willing to serve as the rest and in many cases more so. I did not serve as the draft was terminated six months before my eighteenth birthday. I did not enlist because Viet Nam was just not a just cause based on the conditions and lies.
Was the US military intelligence plan to transform 1/3 the worlds population that were Communist? Towards being 1/2 half of the Worlds poplation now being Socialist.
If that was their plan, I give them full credit for calling themselves intelligent.
I don't think you can blame this mess on the military. They are directed by a host of criminals and lobby whores. Our politics is another topic entirely. I don't know if anyone could expect any different outcome given our oligarchy who wants to globalize the worlds economies and governments. An aggressive elite just can't get enough. Just think of an entire world run by greed.
The more they squeeze the more we slip through their fingers. I can't wait to get over this great abuse to move on to the spiritual age, time for most to thrive.
Free market capitalism thrives in a moral society where The Golden Rule is applied.
How would "spirituality" help propel a free market society?
How could "spirituality" help people overcome the human propensity toward greed and power.
You, of course, will say through a greater feeling of love and empathy for one's fellow man/neighbor.
But, how will we develop this ability to accept, deal fairly and have compassion with our human fellows?
Less self-orientation, most will answer.
However, this is not the answer either for, without conferring with one's self, how will we love?
The answer is here:
By conferring with the true essence of one's Self as opposed to what the self appears to be.
I too, when living in the US thought, this is the best all round country in the world.
After a time of decades of around the world travels.I found many countries I would rather live in than America. Funny thing is, almost all these countries got their ideas from the early times of America. I wish America would steal them all back, exspecially the US Constitution.
Castlepaloma, in all of your travels which country did you find most appealing and why? Just curious
For landscape I must say Napel for it's extreme snow mountains and lower wild jungles.
People, cultures is much stronger than race. I collect the best of each cultures and Incorporated into my soul. It's my soul I carry around to share with others and give it all away. Because all I got in life is what I give away. My Universe expand gethering happiness rather than suffering. Our natural environment is suffering most.
My life story can be sum up in the TV show called the littlest Hobo. Hobo wonders the lonely road, my hunger is to be free, roaming is the only life for me. A wondering, the world is friend, sometimes I think I'll settle down.
Well settling down with 2 sustainable eco villages one in Canada and the other in Belize. These two places are one of the most beautiful countries all round in the world
