Photo Capsules Can't Be Downsized

   I really don't like the new photo capsules.  I would like to make them smaller but can't. I have doubleclicked them with no results.   I want the old photo capsule format where I can reduce the size of the photos  This is ridiculous.  I doubleclicked  the photo capsules several times but there was NO REDUCTION in photo size.  I want the old photo capsule format restored immediately!  I detest the new Hubpages writing format.

      I prefer the larger size. Can see the photos more clearly, especially when I'm on my phone. Love the photo above.

   It is what it is.  The great majority of HubPages' readers view the site on mobile, and half-width photos don't work for them.
   
   Personally, I wish they'd allowed us to keep half-width photos and trusted us to position them correctly, so they look good for mobile viewers too. Unfortunately, too many Hubbers weren't taking sufficient care, so we all lose out because of them. 
   
   Photos are now a fixed width and you can't change that. The only way to make them smaller is to crop the height, so instead of this:

      Thank you for relaying the sad news.  I sorely miss the old photo capsules.  They made hubs look more professional.  The new photo capsules make hubs look like an elementary school child compose a hub.  Hopefully( never say never), HubPages will realize the error & revert back to the old photo capsule as hubs look immensely more professional that way.

         If you take a look at some older hubs in mobile view that still use half-width images floating in the right column, you will find many that’s were done wrong. They are not professional-looking on mobile.
         
         I have noticed a lot of Hubbers never bothered to check mobile view when finishing new hubs. Their right column would end up in the wrong place on mobile. Their text would say things like “see the image at the right” or “see below” but the image would be above the text most of the time on mobile. You have to understand that mobile devices only display one column!
         
         This is what Marisa was referring to when she said “Hubbers weren't taking sufficient care.” I wrote a hub two years ago about making hubs mobile friendly, but few people paid attention. For two years the mistakes continued, while our mobile traffic grew to the point that HubPages needed to do something about it.
         
         In two more weeks (end of October) all floating capsules on older hubs will automatically be moved into one column so that our hubs look the same on desktop as well as on mobile. I wrote about this two years ago and HubPages put out the final warning two months ago, in the newsletter, giving 90-days notice. I still see many hubs that were not fixed. Some people still don’t care that their hubs are unreadable on mobile. So what do you expect?

   It might be frustrating but in the end it's better for us because it forces our articles to be more attractive to Google. Google likes full-sized photos, they drive our traffic.

   You can always put a smaller photo in a bigger white background if you know how to work with a photo program. Sometimes I use that when I have a photo that is too small.
   
   I don't mind the full-sized photos except the photos in portrait are way too big for my taste. In that case I use the method I mentioned above.

   I use a some historic images and some of them lost resolution when full sized. Of course that was a total tragedy for about 5 minutes. So I am going through hubs to remove and replace the newly inferior images. Replacing my older images shows up as a refresh so it's not so bad. Sometimes, out hunting for pix, I find something new and enjoy adding a better picture.
   
   However some of the images seem way too large. Some are larger than my screen so I'd have to scroll down to view the entire image. Can I just shrink them in photo shop?

   One way around this problem is to place two photos side by side, thereby making both photos smaller. You will have to use some outside program to do that. I use Photoshop, but if you don't have it you can use Picassa, Picmonkey, Paint or some other photo program.

      I never thought of that! I have found several pictures that show the image from 2 or more sides but don't want to overload the hub. This is a great idea! Thanks, Sherry! (I have photoshop)

   I also like the larger photos, it looks so much better.  I sometimes use ipiccy, as well as the other programs listed for photos.
