HubPages have special technology that allows them to track people who copy and paste text or save whole pages and as soon as they're alerted they send out a mob of thugs to the perpetrators house to beat them up. A broken leg, or a few crushed fingers. It's usually enough to teach them not to do it again.
You have all of the powers that you need to protect your own content. Hubpages is powerless to prevent content theft (although will alert you to this).
The action to take against the thief is your responsibility, you can find out a more on this in my hub about plagiarism if you so wish.
No, they are not. You own your own copyright and are responsible for going after those who steal your material.
All of your writing is covered by copyrigh as soon as you write it, it's easier to proove once it is published. When it's published online it has a date stamp which you don't see. But you can always just read the copyright notice at the very bottom of every page here on HP
HubPages won't go chasing people who steal your work, but the good thing is that if they do detect a duplicate of your article anywhere, you'll see a small copyright symbol appear next to your Hub on your Statistics page. Then you can go after them yourself!
What if they live faaaar away? Just kidding!
That's good to know!
There's also that 'Creative Commons License' thing you can put on your hubs, right?!
'Creative Commons License', I wonder what is this...
Look it up.
Some of my hubs have the text on the bottom.

Uninvited Writer - how do you feel about what Creative Commons says, "You are free to share, copy, distribute and transmit this work"? It's the first thing they mention on their link:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/
I know they go on to list their conditions, but to me, it almost encourages people to copy your stuff!
Since hub pages does not allow HTML it is not possible to place a copyscape symbol on hubs. So I use a simple "home made" JPEG on my hub articles, worded to discourage plagiarism.
But...it says right underneath...under these conditions...
Thanks guys for posting i learned a lot from your ideas...
@tantrum : yeah its copyright.
I don't think anyone would want to copy my work..ha ha so I think i can sleep safe knowing no one wants mine!!!

I am not going to drag up the recent massive plagiarism activity again, but - as you know Maddie - I have found that quite a lot of my hubs have been de-indexed and my traffic here is dropping despite publishing new work and despite actively promoting myself outside of hubpages. I realize that it...

What's the point in keeping us from linking to our own work in our articles? That's how we increase traffic to our articles!

Do you include a copyright notice in your articles? Why or why not?I never do this, but I see that a lot of folks on here do. Just wondering what the opinions are out there.

So, they claim that my poem is a duplicate content. HubPages, are you serious? I hope no one on the internet is taking and stealing my fantasies and creative ideas. Nobody has a cable attached to my brain. The only thing is that I put a quote in a callout capsule and the poem was about 260 words in...

I love the new "copyright infringement" symbols that appear by hubs that seem to have had content copied or scraped, but is there a way to make the symbol disappear when the other site has your permission? Several of mine that have "duplicate content" are articles I sold...

So over the past few weeks I've been wanting to re-publish some of my old articles.Knowing that Google has a prob with duplicate pages I start looking up my articles on the web, and crud! My articles are ALL over the web. Some of them have 10-20 dupes.I suppose I should feel complimented!Meanwhile...
