HubPages have special technology that allows them to track people who copy and paste text or save whole pages and as soon as they're alerted they send out a mob of thugs to the perpetrators house to beat them up. A broken leg, or a few crushed fingers. It's usually enough to teach them not to do it again.

You have all of the powers that you need to protect your own content. Hubpages is powerless to prevent content theft (although will alert you to this).

The action to take against the thief is your responsibility, you can find out a more on this in my hub about plagiarism if you so wish.

No, they are not. You own your own copyright and are responsible for going after those who steal your material.

All of your writing is covered by copyrigh as soon as you write it, it's easier to proove once it is published.  When it's published online it has a date stamp which you don't see. But you can always just read the copyright notice at the very bottom of every page here on HP

HubPages won't go chasing people who steal your work, but the good thing is that if they do detect a duplicate of your article anywhere, you'll see a small copyright symbol appear next to your Hub on your Statistics page.  Then you can go after them yourself!

      That's good to know!
There's also that 'Creative Commons License' thing you can put on your hubs, right?!

          Look it up.

Some of my hubs have the text on the bottom.

Uninvited Writer - how do you feel about what Creative Commons says, "You are free to share, copy, distribute and transmit this work"?  It's the first thing they mention on their link:

            http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/

I know they go on to list their conditions, but to me, it almost encourages people to copy your stuff!

Since hub pages does not allow HTML it is not possible to place a copyscape symbol on hubs. So I use a simple "home made" JPEG on my hub articles, worded to discourage plagiarism.
