Just as I joined HP and started to learn how it all goes, the Hub Love contest was in bloom. I didn't participate, because I couldn't align one capsule with another and I knew I had a learning curve to ride, and because I saw that whatever you guys were doing about recognizing each other would have to wait, in terms of my comprehension and my ability to absorb what I saw as overwhelming information.
Since I've been on HP, I've seen the talents and gifts of awesome hubbers through not just their hubs, but also their comments. Some of the "best" hubbers write hubs in one style, but write comments in a very different one, yet always with insight, humor, wit, and sometimes a lot of detail.
What about a contest featuring comments?
I like it too. Have you ever been surprised by a comment almost as long as yer hub? I love that!
I think it's a great idea, too.
Yes, I've been surprised by some long comments....they can humbling as well as flattering.
Shirley even appreciates those "sub" hubs, don't ya Shirley? LOL
Bonnie
I think I had a comment once that was longer than my hub. *g*
I think it's a good idea, and remember, you don't need for us to approve stuff like this, if you'd like to run it on your own.
If you want to run a contest of your own, you can set the terms, choose the "prizes" (I strongly suggest prizes without financial value, or else you have significant legal hurdles to get past), and be the judges.
So you could have a "Best Comments" contest, in which people could nominate the best comment by posting a nomination comment on your contest Hub, and then have a prize like "the winner gets a 1,000 word Hub written on whatever topic they like". Mark Knowles actually ran something similar to this last year.
We can provide some limited support for you, but please contact us first to see if that's something we're able to do.
Now I'm excited!
Jason, could you point us to the hub Mark created to run his contest? I'm a firm believer in the WOUM principle, write once use many. I'm sure we would get good ideas from his work...or would it be better if I got in touch with him directly?
DJ, you are so right. I guess it's because something in the hub just trips off a flow in the mind, and there you have it. I've seen people stop themselves mid-stream in a comment and say something like, "Wait a minute. That's a hub all by itself!" A little later, you see the inspired hub.
Patty, I ain't no judge o' nothin'. I'd like to know who'd like to participate in creating the contest, judging it, and deciding on and delivering the prize. I would be happy to be the point person for the project.
Shirley, the comments can be amazing, can't they? Flattering and humbling indeed. Also, I've found myself saying, after reading a particularly thoughtful and insightful comment, "Why didn't I think of that?"
Jason, thanks very much for the suggestions and offer of support.
What say you all?

But, Mark and I had a misunderstanding about what we were capable of providing him in terms of information, so PLEASE contact us directly and clear EXACTLY what you want and when you want it, and we'll be able to tell you if that's possible.
Thanks for the update Jason. Will do.
It's awesome that hubbers can have this kind of relationship with HP. We have an idea, we let you know, you let us know, in a timely fashion, what kind of action you can take or support you can give. You ask for up-front information. And we agree to do that. I'd say this is pretty powerful communication between the company and its clientele.

What is the best way to increase comments and accolades received on a hub? What is the single best way to increase interest in your hubs? And what is the best way to increase the most obvious evidence of interest in your hubs - namely, comments and accolades received? After nearly 2 years on...

How about sharing your weirdest comments? I've had quite a few, some I keep and others I delete.I just deleted one comment that was an entire conversation between several people about a totally unrelated topic. They seemed to be chatting about leg warmers from the 1980's. It must have been cut and...

When you receive a comment on one of your hubs, do you always post back with a comment? Or, just when there is something to post back about. For example if someone just comments that it is a nice hub, do I need to comment back to them? Thanks!
