I have never denied a fan comment, but . . .

I got one a while ago that said some nice things about my hubs AND added the his thought:"I will be happy to join your fan club and i expect same from your side."

I checked the sender's profile page and noted that this person has fanned about 100 hubbers in the past half hour. I wonder how many hubs were read?
It doesn't cost me anything to become someone's fan-- but I am disinclined to do it for someone who "expects" me to.
Also ,all of the hubs of this person are on a subject that personally holds little interest for me, though they may be helpful to some people.
What do you think of this?

I got the same guy on mine, I'm pretty sure I didn't add him!

Pretty sure I got the same one, Rochelle.  I went back & forth a while on it, am not interested in his hubs, and finally denied the fan comment.  First time for me, too.

Kind of like a mineral rights lease I was sent by a broker for some rights I have in North Dakota.  He "expected" me to sign, but the written terms were lowballed price-wise and had numerous other disadvantages to me in them that differed from what we'd discussed by phone.  So I told him I'd deal no further with him, and he whined about it...till I roared at him over the phone.

At least I was able to deny this one (the hubber) without "roaring".   lol

I think that reasonable, but there is a cost to you and the reason some are solicting fans. Each time they publish you get notified in one way or another, either it pops up on your landing page or you get a cluttered email box. Those types of fans most of us just dont need. Making a general annoucement requesting fans is one thing, I think it is in poor taste to ask an individual and certainly to expect they comply .

You shouldn't be expected to join someone's fan club because they joined yours.  Your position is completely reasonable.

You should only become the fan of a hubber whose hubs interest you. I agree with you.

    Hmmm.

    I would deny it.
It would attract even more serial fanners if they see the comment approved by you. They would think you are up for playing the fan trading game.

Well that could spell an advantage. Even if the fan expects you to fan him back, that does not necessarily mean that you should. And if approving the fan mail would attract more serial fanners to you, what would you lose? I have serial fanners and very few faithful readers, and it's okay. smile After all, I am aiming to inform people, not just hubbers, and comments are just bonus.

I agree with wychic. However, there is nothing wrong with accepting that comment either.
Everyone has their own preferences. smile
Personally I think things start to feel a little spammy when comments like that go on hubs, so I usually deny them. (Unless it is somebody that I already know, for example.)

I'd do whatever you feel best about doing Rochelle.  Personally, I would accept the fan mail and if I don't see anything that makes me want to be THEIR fan, then I wouldn't become their fan.  Nothing says you have to if you accept theirs.  They can always withdraw theirs later if they get upset that you didn't fan them back.  But, if they're a serial fammer, then they won't even notice that you didn't fan them back.  It's nothing I would worry about at all.

Personally, I only fan people that I really, honestly like and enjoy reading. In return, it's a bit of an ego-boost to me to think that those who have become my fan actually enjoy reading my stuff too...it may not be true, but that's the reality I choose to believe big_smile

Denying the fan mail doesn't stop him being your fan, so it doesn't achieve much.  I certainly wouldn't fan him back, but then I never fan people back on principle.

lol   This individual made the rounds, Rochelle.   lol  As I mentioned in the other thread, I wrote it off to his being new (and maybe to English as a second language, as far as choice of words went).

I personally only fan someone if i like their articles. I beleive its meant to be for fans of their writings not how kool or funny they are in forums but to each their own. And on that note not just one article should make you a fan , they should have many that youlike. and sometimes the subject matter is not even as important as how they present it. I found an article today that was very well written but on a subject that I dont normally care about the writing seemed professional so i commented, read a few more ,and realized the person could actually write, unlike some others who post half a sentence and 3 Bollywood pictures but have 300+ fans. Bookmarking individual hubs or fanning a particular writers is supposed to just be a way to find that particular persons articles bcuz you actually enjoy knowing when they have new articles.

It's a tough one, in the past when I was a newbie, I have approved such comments. However I am not sure if I would or not now. I also find that those that go on fanning sprees tend not to notice or care if you have not fanned them anyway.
