I am planning my itinerary now and I have some doubt, I hope someone could help me with it.

    1.    Which transport should I take to go to Hangzhou as I heard is near, but how near is it? Can I take a bus?
    2.    Can I get back on the same day as I do not wish to spend another Hotel Charges?

Hope i would get a reply soon!!

      Hi,

I read your post by chance. And I am glad to help you.

I am living in Shanghai now so you can feel free to contact with me if you have any questions or need help here.

      1.    Which transport should I take to go to Hangzhou as I heard is near, but how near is it? Can I take a bus?
----> Yes, Hangzhou is near from Shanghai, and you can visit there conveniently by bus or train. It takes you about 2 hours from Shanghai to Hangzhou by train. And about 3 hours by bus. You can go there at anytime.

      2.    Can I get back on the same day as I do not wish to spend another Hotel Charges?
----> Yes, but I suggest you stay at Hangzhou one or two days. Cause there are somes places like Westlake or somewhere that worthy your time and we have some hotels very cheap, about 20 dollors per day.

      Hope it is helpful !

    Hello Lala,

I just Google it, found that from Shanghai to Hangzhou it need a 2 hours Transportation time, so i think that if you want come back on the actual day is fine. So don't worry!!.

The transportation from Shanghai to Hangzhou, you can take train, long-distance bus, or by plane.

Below is the information i got from a FAQ on Web.

    Ticket Office:
    No. 390, Tiyuchang Road, Hangzhou
    No. 193, Qingchun Road, Hangzhou

    CAAC Inquiry Number: 0571-85154259

There are airport shuttle buses between Wulin Men, the city center and the airport. One-way fares are about 15 Yuan per person; Taxis cost about 120 Yuan one way. High-speed buses direct to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (SHA) directly can be found at the Wulin Men CAAC Ticket Office. Every day six buses run between Hangzhou and Shanghai from 6: 00 to 15:00. The bus fare is approximately 85 Yuan one-way.

There are also buses heading for Xiaoshan City (CNY 15), Shaoxing City (CNY 30) and Yiwu City (CNY 60).

    By Train

National arterial railways connect Hangzhou with cities all around China. Trains from New Train Station or East Train Station reach more than 20 cities directly, including Beijing (1650 kilometers), Shanghai (200 kilometers), and Xian (1550 kilometers) and so on. Tens of thousands of passengers are carried every day. Many travel agencies and hotels will book train tickets. Tourists are encouraged to book soft sleeper tickets for long distance trips and soft seat tickets for travel to nearby cities such as Ningbo (170 kilometers), and Shanghai.

And also there are altogether several air-conditioning tourist trains shuttling between Hangzhou and Shanghai. With a whole distance of about 180 kilometers (112 miles), the ticket costs about CNY 25 per person.

I will be at the Expo.  I've already got my tickets reserved.  I live in Shanghai half the year, and Singapore the other half.

Travel to Hangzhou is very convenient.  I would suggest taking the train.  And it is no problem to make the trip in a day.

You will really like Hangzhou, I think.  Also, if you have time, you might want to visit Suzhou as well, another nearby city.  The old saying is, "Above the sky there is heaven; below there is Suzhou and Hangzhou."   Both are very beautiful, and very worth visiting.
