What are some good tips to save money when purchasing an airline ticket?
Purchasing an airline ticket is a major travel expense. What are some ways I can save money on a ticket so I can spend my cash elsewhere?
Try to buy somewhat in advance. It gives you the opportunity to look for deals.
Sign up for airline emails, they will send their own internal deals. I live in Canada and Westjet sends lots of deals. I made lots of weekend vacations out of $60 plane tickets ($200 with taxes).
Search deal websites. Redtag.ca is a Canadian example. Hotwire.com etc etc.
Collect Aeroplan or Airmiles points. You get basically get a free short hop flight for signing up for an Aeroplan credit card.
I use my collected points to buy flights and then sell other flights to my friends for a deal and I get some spending cash on the vacation. Win win.
Buy in advance as far as possible, and if you can be real flexible with your departing and returning times, you can save even more.
I have found the Internet booking sites to be the cheapest. Such as Priceline, Hotwire, booking, etc. Sometime you can even get last minutes deals.
The only thing you have to be careful about is that you might not be able to change the departure date once you have bought the tickets.
Today there are many good sites which offers online ticketing services, they provides cheap flight tickets. So, booking your tickets online is better way of saving money on purchasing an airline ticket.
