I've looked around a bit, and -- being new here -- I haven't found out, yet, how I can present my book so that it can be considered for purchase or distribution. If the answer is in FAQ, there is language I don't understand. I've published on Lulu, but there seems to be no program to distribute it. Also, The books I want to distribute are on my own website, but I still haven't sold anything. Because I got a "Duplicate" warning here on one book, must I removed those two books from those websites, in order to proceed here?
I wrote a Hub on how to promote your novel - you can find it from my profile.
As you're finding, self-publishing is all very well, but to make sales, you have to learn how to market it. In a nutshell, I recommend you post the first chapter of each book on ONE site somewhere on the internet, then write articles promoting it in as many other places as you can find. Google tends to ignore duplicates so posting the same chapters in multiple places isn't really productive.
Talk to Rochelle Frank, she's had success with a children's book. And post links to your book on Lulu and your websites on your HubPages profile - it's allowed.
If it is duplicate you can have it cleared to use. But you can't make money off that hub. No outside links, no amazon and so on. However you can write another hub and list your link there. The duplicate can have a link pointing to the non-duplicate hub.
When you create or edit a hub, in the top right you will see items you can use. Click on link and a capsule will be placed at the bottom of your hub. Scroll down and on the right you will see the design of your hub. It might say "photo" then "text" then "comments". You will also see the word "Link" You can drag it above the text and under the photo. Then you have to click on "reorder capsules". Once it reorders your capsules, you will see arrows. Click on the arrow and it will place your link capsule beside your text and under the photo you have placed on your hub. Or you can just leave it at the end of your hub text, your choice.
You can enter two links per hub. They can point to your book.
I too am an author and while I don't directly promote my books here on HubPages, I do write interesting articles that people may enjoy about a variety of topics and in my profile, it mentions my status as an author as well as links to my websites.
HubPages is like other social media in the respect that it exists for people to connect with one another and by developing those relationships, people may take aninterest in your book.
The duplicate warning means you can't use text that is already published on the internet somewhere else.
This is explained rather simply in the FAQ,
http://hubpages.com/faq/#duplicate_content
And as far as selling your books, if you don't understand how to market and advertise, then you won't find yourself selling many of your books whether you use your own site, or HubPages.
Thank you for taking the time to answer. Gotta run right now, but I'll be back to tweak my questions.
I greatly appreciate your help and hints. I am what they may call an old man, wandering in this new field of computerized internet gadgets -- all ethereal to me. I had no idea what kind of machine HubPages is. To put it metaphorically, I didn't know if it was a bicycle shop, or a bunch of bicycles, or the salespeople of bicycles, bicycle designers, or the materials that go to make up a bicycle.
One thing I had already found out is what a duplicate was. This is why I deleted it before I asked my question, which didn't ask what a duplicate was.

Why does my hub keep saying it is a duplicate? It is my work. I even made many changes many times.I deleted it, rewrote it and tried to publish it again, after having made many changes. Still it says duplicate. It should not say this. It is my work.

I notice several disgruntled Hubbers on Eric's new Hub, saying they're leaving HubPages because of the duplicate content flags. They seem to be misunderstanding what the dup content flag is all about - either they think they're being penalized, or that the flag means they have to delete the Hub.I...
