                  The reason I have shunned Twilight is simple. It is nothing but a teenage girl's version of those romance novels desperate housewives read. The story itself is very predictable and it has ruined the image of vampires completely.

                  Because it's at once both ridiculous as well as rather blasphemous, in my view, to have a movie where humans fall in love with werewolves and/or vampires.
                  It's taking what was always viewed as evil and trying to mainstream it, validate it, etc.
                  I'm not against scary movies, at least not all of them, and I'd much prefer a scary monster or zombie movie or some such than to see the likes of Twilight with its skewed sense of "love" being fed to impressionable children and teens.

         Harry Potter is legendary...JK Rowling does not use hot guys as a strategy to appeal to readers (female ofcourse) her writing is pure and its intellectual on all levels.

      No, the writing of the Twilight series is terrible.

   There are actually 4 books in the series with a 5th that was released on the internet supposedly without the author's permission. The 5th book is on hold indefinitely now.
   
   I don't see how it could be the new Harry Potter it is a totally different realm. Potter is more fantasy much like but no where near Lord of the Rings where as the Twilight saga is more a coming of age type of book that follows the story of the Cullen family.
   
   I'm not a huge fan of either one much less so the Twilight Saga as I find the author a bit remiss in some of her writing. At least the Potter series seems to be written by someone who truly knows how to write.

   I can't speak for the whole series because the first one was so painfully written I could hardly wade through it. As far as story goes, Edward should just eat that imbecile and be done with her.  So what if he can't read her mind.  Just because you can't see what's inside a can of crap doesn't mean you need to court it for all eternity.  My god.
   
   There is no chance it will be the "new Harry Potter."  It's a chick-book series for teenage girls and their mothers.  No one will remember it in five years.
   
   I congratulate Stephenie Meyer on her fortune, that is all.

   I prefer Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles myself. But, I haven't read Twilight and I really don't have any interest in reading it.

   Twilight, in my opinion, was horribly written. It was difficult to make it through the first chapters, much less the whole book.
   
   Unlike J.K. Rowling, who actually KNOWS how to write, and completely absorb the reader into the writing with action and drama, Stephenie Meyer used cheesy romance and hot guys for the teenagers to swoon over.
   
   Housewives as well.
   Quite sad, to be honest.
   She tarnished the view of vampires.
   As well as using many other references from other book series. Sad. I don't want anything to do with Twilight anymore.
   
   It'll never be the "next Harry Potter".
   The writing and plot was an overall failure.

      I never read the books...a bit out of my age bracket...I did try to watch the movie the other night and found it to be laughable at best...poorly written dialog and the acting was nearly as bad.

   I don't have the source off hand, but I read somewhere that Twilight (four novels) has sold ~20 million books and Harry Potter had sold ~120 million when it was four books along.
   
   I hate to generalize, but Twilight really does seem to appeal most to teenage girls and their mothers. Even most of the vampire lit. fans I know hate it, myself included. (Vampires don't sparkle, dammit!) Harry Potter has a much broader appeal.

   It's too early to say right now because "Twilight" is still in it's infancy stage for a movie series, so we'll have to wait and see.  It's like comparing Kevin Durant, in the NBA, to Michael Jordan.  Sure, he may have the talent to draw comparisons to him, but is he as good?  I think it's too early to tell right now, as we'll have to wait at least ten years, before we pull out the measuring stick on that one.  Same thing with Twilight, lets wait until after it's had like 4 or 5 movies that all have been box office hits, then we can compare the series to harry potter.  Until then, any opinion is purely subjective.
