Gee, why does everyone misjudge the poor, poor president?

The president actually said the following:

"I do think that at a certain point you've made enough money"

He immediately realized his error in saying what he thinks and tried to talk over it, but there it is.

I wonder if he has reached that point? If so then I guess he wouldn't mind giving me his salary so I can get to that point.

I'm quite sure he was talking personally. I've heard many, many say that. And I agree, there comes a time when you probably feel like you have enough money. (Of course, I would love to be at that level smile )

He is not saying everyone has to follow that rule. You are grasping for straws.

Why am I not surprised that you chose to leave out the rest of his remarks? By doing so, you are posting nothing more than misleading propaganda.

We're not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that's fairly earned. I do think that at a certain point you've made enough money, but you know part of the American way is that you can just keep on making it if you're providing a good product or you're providing a good service. We don't want people to stop fulfilling the core responsibilities of the financial system to help grow the economy.

He did no such thing. That is just your spin.

Thanks for providing what apparently is the context, but actually what you quoted sounds like propaganda, it's hard to find the clear point in Obama's remarks that refutes the impression of many that he begrudges the 'American Way' of making money by providing a needed good or service, and I don't much care for his notion that it is a 'core responsibiity' of Americans to help grow the economy --  it hardly matches up with his parties notions of spreading the wealth, or is it only the few that should have these core responsibilites? and the masses reap the benefit?  Just kind of twisted remarks in my view.

I remember Bush telling everyone to help the economy recover by going to Disneyland.

Tax rates for the richest people in America are at their lowest point in years - and while the poor and middle class have seen their income stagnate since the 1970s, the richest Americans have seen a doubling or tripling of incomes.

Did you know that during WW2 and the 50s, income taxes for the richest Americans were 95% or thereabouts - for more than a decade?  We were certainly not an economically crippled, socialist dictatorship during those years - quite the opposite.

Taxes are used to create infrastructure which in turn makes it easier to have a business.  It's called investing in America.  If you don't want to pay taxes, move to Somalia.

So you want to make it worse for them? Maybe you should care for the poor and middle class more than you do for an irrational ideology.

How exactly am I planning on making it worse?  The middle class had it the best during the 50s and 60s - when tax rates were highest.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The myth that the wealthy of this country are the untoucable source of wealth and prosperity is bunk!  The current economic recession followed a huge thax cut skewed to the richest. By Randian philosophy this should have resulted in prosperity - and it did - for the rich. The rest of us got screwed.

The great depression followed super-low taxes (top tier around 20%) and no government interference. The paralells are striking. ANd like a crazed horse, conservatives want to drag us all back to into that burning building.

Yes, Paul Krugman's recent book explores this. A more progressive tax scheme resulted in incomes rising across all wealth levels, not only for the rich as it's been the case for the last few decades.

Well, Obama could certainly rectify his "talked over" error if he wanted. He could use his own surplus to help bail out citizens instead of corporations. I spent some of today helping some friends move, whose home has been foreclosed on. How wonderful for them they are keeping an optimistic outlook of "offloading" a lot of things in life that may help them open up to future possibilities.

Obama may want to consider "offloading" some of his burden in helping Americans....perhaps...

The financial meltdown dramatically showed the dangers of too little government, he said, "when a lack of accountability on Wall Street nearly led to the collapse of our entire economy."

Obama made $5.5 million last year.  Maybe he should voluntarily take a pay cut to ZERO until the country is out of debt?

    ================ Bailout Money =====================

"The Associated Press contacted 21 banks that received at least $1 billion in government money and asked four questions: How much has been spent? What was it spent on? How much is being held in savings, and what's the plan for the rest?

None of the banks provided specific answers.

"We're not providing dollar-in, dollar-out tracking," said Barry Koling, a spokesman for Atlanta, Ga.-based SunTrust Banks Inc., which got $3.5 billion in taxpayer dollars."

    ================== That's right ZERO Accountability ==========

Obama petitioned for the free money giveaway with no restrictions.  And while the few Big Banks who sold stock to pay back money made the news the other banks who have paid back absolutely nothing are not being talked about at all.

Obama is bought and paid.  He works for the Wealthy Elite.  He's a hypocrite.  Says there is too little accountability.  He's the guy that worked the phones to push through the Bailout Fraud.  There has been no real accounting for the giveaway.  Obama's new financial proposal is nothing more than an even bigger power shift of economic wealth to the Wealthy Elite.  He wants to give even more control to the Federal Reserve.  Americans are pretty stupid... they don't even know that the Federal Reserve is private.

Why do people who are not even United States citizens feel entitled to comment on a system which they do not even live under?

Because America has a tendency to come out and affect everyone's lives - you want to come out and play you have to accept it when we join in.

And as a nation, talking to yourself all the time is a sign of psychosis, and plenty of other evidence for that also.  Healthy discussion is never a bad idea.  Or do you mean the much vaunted 'free speech' is only for some people ?

He was paid $5.5 million by the US government?

    1. rebekahELLE profile image85
rebekahELLEposted 13 years agoin reply to this

no, most of his income came from his best-selling books.

Tax returns released by the White House  show Obama's adjusted gross income was $5,505,409 in 2009 - mostly from best-selling book sales.

Dreams from My Father earned him $3.3 million in 2009, while The Audacity of Hope brought in $2.3 million. This is more than double what the two books earned the Obamas in 2008, about $2.6 million. The Washington Post points out that $1.6 million of this year's book earnings comes from foreign sales.

On that, he owed $1,792,414 in federal taxes, or a third of his income, but overpaid by $8,287. The Obamas applied the refund to next year's bill.

The Obamas' total gross income was $5,623,690, before adjustments.

The President offset his tab somewhat by being very generous, giving $329,100 to 40 different charities.

In addition, the Obamas donated his entire $1.4 million Nobel Peace Prize income to charity and paid $163,303 in Illinois state income taxes.

    HUBBERS

The more Obama speaks, the more  lies Obama tells. Now,are they really lies or just that he don't remember what he said the last time when not using a teleprompter.

    There is and old saying
''you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all the people all of the time''.

REALLY, for not being in Washington much, he does get around for about $500,000 a trip.It wasn't too long ago that Obama and Congress chastised the auto executives for their private jets when their companies were going broke.
