What is the proper way to do it? Daily? Or...

I promote mine at the time I publish in various places and at others time I will Tweet them when I have them pulled up for some reason.  As for "hours" to spend promoting? I simple do not have the time as I do have a "regular" job and life. smile

As far as the social media aspect of it goes, I just do it whenever I happen to feel like it.

I will usually write a Hub and let it sit a day or two (steep) so gets some 'score'. Then I add stickies such as photo's or video's and related links and again, may let it sit. My schedule usually goes one day , write, tomorrow promote this, that and the other Hub. Day after that, do something else, like write at another site. You just got to 'stagger' your activities. Set a pace and schedule that's comfortable for you wink

I am trying to do that, but have no idea how many social sites/directories I need, to promote my hubs.

Here's the good news: Approximately thirty seconds! And my articles on Hubpages, Squidoo and two blogs get about 50,000 visitors a week.

If a webpage is not going to get organic search traffic on its own, trying to prop it up manually is like running back and forth in no wind trying to keep a kite flying. You can only do that with a limited number of kites at once. Instead, your goal is to make your content self-sustaining, the equivalent of filling a balloon with helium and/or putting solar panels on a model plane to turn its propellor.

Learn basic on-page SEO. Learn what gets more clicks, sales. Learn magnetic headlines. Cross-link your related content, if it's of interest to the same audience. Create content that is so useful, excellent, and remarkable that your readers share it. Those are the five techniques that work for me.

See highly-respected industry expert Danny Sullivan's epic rant on earning links vs. building links for why I don't bother submitting urls to directories.

It does come down to content. But "quality content" isn't enough. Effective content that provides something for a particular web audience, satisfying their needs or tastes, is what really works.

I just want to say that when GreekGeek posts... I read.  It usually makes a lot of sense.

I'm with you.  Do you think there is some to prod her into producing a post every couple of hours or so?  By evening we could all have a couple of hours reading time and the whole next day for study and implementation.

I promoted them before, but at the moment, I don't do any promotion anymore!

These days, none.  I just depend on natural search engine traffic.

I don't do any promotion and the majority of my articles will be indexed within a day or two. Then, if Google likes the content and competition is low, I will end up on page 1 or 2 within a few weeks or months. I am slowly building my traffic but I also have hubs I wrote almost 3 years ago that are still on page 1 of Google for several keywords with no promotion.
